    Pruning Saw

    I snapped the blade on my pruning saw yesterday, the blade seemed pretty flimsy anyway and I think it was probably a cheap purchase.
    I've tried to find a thread on pruning saws, but couldn't find anything. I found a mention of 'OPINEL KNIVES' though, so I've looked on Amazon and found this OPINEL folding saw.

    I like that it has a wooden handle and you can get replacement blades, they do a 12cm and an 18cm folding saw. The reviews are good too.
    Does anyone have an opinion?

    Not used the pruning saw but I do have several Opinel knives all of which are good quality, from the coices on that page I would go for the top one as it has a positive blade lock that cannot get snagged & flick open which is a possibility (probably a very remote one) in the case of the second item with the over-centre clasp.

      It looks like you can only get a replacement blade for the 18cm version, I don't do a lot of saw pruning but it's reassuring to be able to replace the blade. Although the replacement blade is almost as expensive as the 12cm saw anyway.

        I can recommend the Japanese "Silky" range, such as the "ProSentei". This site has lots of brands / types, but you may well find them cheaper elsewhere.

        As the blade is "most" of the saw you may well find that a replacement blade is 90% of the price of a new one, so perhaps not worth trying to future-proof the purchase if you don't have much pruning to do?

          I agree there isn't much point in future proofing a saw that isn't going to get that much use
