  • My visit to Dobbies!

I know there's a lot of questions recently on what can be planted at this time of year? so thought I would tell you about my visit to Dobbies garden centre!
As far as I know Dobbies have a chain of stores throughout the country so you shouldn't be far away from one!
I went in for some Japanese Autumn planting onion sets........they had none yet, but, I bought some other stuff.
There seeds are half price at present so I bought stuff for sowing now or soon:-

Broad Bean Jubilee Hysor @ 99p to sow now............ Other beans were available including Aqualunce Claudia and Epicure, both of which I grew last/this year and kept back some seed!

Pea Feltham First @ 79p Ideal for an Autumn sowing!

Green Manure Mustard seeds @ 99p......Enough for 10sq yards!

Chrysanthemum Tricolour @ 49p...an annual Chrysanthemum to be sown now for early cut flowers (and brownie points!) next year.

I grow my own winter brassicas and leeks from seed but for anyone starting out they had, leek plants, cauli plants, PSB plants, spring cabbage plants, calabrese plants and even brussel sprout plants for planting now! All a tad expensive for me but if you only require a small amount and you missed the sowing time, they could be worth it!

So, I spent a very reasonable £3.26 and have everything now ready for planting....apart from the very thing I went in for, but will buy soon, the jap onions!

No excuses all you new allotmenteers everythings there for you!

I didnt realise Dobbies had shops - silly me!

Looks like there is one near me, may have to take a visit as I was going to order my wintering onions and Garlic fom there. Might save on postage and waiting and take a drive in a few weeks

Thanks Snadger for pointing it out to me, I always like a walk around new garden centers at the weekend - Sad I know.

Hi Loz, Dobbies is not to be confused with Dobies the seed merchant. You should still be able to get what you want at the garden centre though, and save on the postage!

I was one of the Dobie/Dobbie confuddled!

A friend of mine told me about a "new" Dobbies which has opened/refurbed just up the road from me, in Milton Keynes.

Might take a trip up there at the weekend...

            Cheers Snadger!
