  • Long handled bulb planter

Morning all, just wondered if anyone could recommend a good long handled bulb planter?
I have been checking the internet but a lot of them get the thumbs down when planting a lot of bulbs and we have quite a lot to do. Thanks in advance!

I have a Bulldog one, bought cheaply at a Car Boot. Built like a brick-outhouse! and works a treat. I jump up on down on it, like a pogo stick, with the cores ejecting where they will ... then pop a bulb in a hole and replace the nearest core on top of it.

I raise all my plants (veg and ornamental annuals etc.) in 9cm pots, and I plant them with the bulb planter too - they fit neatly in the hole it makes, and I find it much easier than a trowel as I have some arthritis in my wrist and find a trowel painful if I have a lot of holes to make

I have 3 long handled bulb planters including one like Kristens but I have found the handle has started to work loose with all the twisting. For 6 squid, I have added this to my collection, similar to one that I already have & prefer.

What's the quality like BM? Would it get through a lawn for instance?

It should cut through lawn Jay. You could try & if it doesn't, just cut away the lawn with a trowel.

What you will notice is that the first plug tends to stay in the planter but pushes out once you make the second hole etc, etc.........this just leaves one plug of soil to push out of the planter when you've finished making all the holes you need. Hope that makes sense.

For me that would defeat the objective

Picked it up from the store after work this afternoon and played with it at teatime. It's a sturdier bit of kit than I thought it would be for the price - thanks very much for the recommendation Mally

You're welcome Flo, I'm so glad you like it as recommendations can sometimes backfire. Thank you.
