  • hose handset - what do you do over winter?

Ok, yet another winter and the handful of frosts we have had have completely killed my hose handset. I have only ever had one handset that has lasted more than one season and it was discontinued .

I just wondered what peeps do. Do you remove them over winter or do you have some lovely gizmo to cover and protect them with or something entirely different?

I would like help as, 1. I struggle to find decent handsets and 2. I do use it all year round (bird/ animal drinkers)

    Help as always greatly appreciated

Wish I could advise NG but the only outside mains water I use is for the Power Washer if the Water Butts are empty.

Is this the squirty thing on the end of the hose?
If you can't remove it from the hose, can you put it in an insulated bag/box?

I assume that's what is meant, I just remove mine for winter

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I had a multi-function plastic one, lasted one season before it started leaking (used in conservatory, so never froze). Replaced with a brass one (still multifunction) thinking that would be more robust. It lasted two seasons ...

I now use a lance with a rose on the end, rather than multi-function. It has a very high flow rate, but the rose is "gentle", so takes less time to water then the old multi-function, I don't have "mist" and "jet" etc - which was useful to water the plants at the back whenever the greenhouse was stuffed!
