  • Battery powered lawn mower

    hi All

Sorry for the lots of questions but there is too much choice out there!

Anyone had any experience of battery powered law mowers? any good?

or am I better off looking for a petrol lawnmower? if yes, any lightweight options?

    Many thanks

Well I use a Bosch rechargeable shear for doing the borders around the lotty and the small lawns I have. It's fab, has nearly an hour charge. I looked up all the reviews on amazon, then got it for half price on eBay

if your garden is small, and you dont mind using electric, the Bosch Rotak is the best of the bunch .. just over £100, and even collects the wet grass when it rains .... one of the best buys on the market for small mowers

if you have a larger garden, search ebay for a used Etesia push mower (petrol) .... £150 gets you a good etesia with a Honda engine and this is better than any Hayter mower on the market .... it does not do stripes, but it collects all the clippings even in monsoon rain (thats why councils use them now)

if you do opt for an etesia, £80 gets a full service and blade sharpened, and it will last you a lifetime (its a commercial mower, and a new one costs over £1000)

        Linnea,

I've only just joined the forum. I was in the same boat as you, wanting a cheap lawn mower and came across the battery types. Not needing much as I only have a small patch of grass in my garden, I came across two cheap mowers. One was a Cotech mower from Clas Ohlsen, but I couldn't get any joy from a UK call centre. You'd have thought I was talking Swedish. There was another I found, though not quiet as cheap, which was the EVO1536LI, but the company selling them had a UK phone number so I got more info on them. I got a £10 discount for an over the phone order and a bit more piece opf mind. Really happy with it so far. Really lightweight. Only about 14kg without the battery, so easy to mvoe about. If you haven't got one yet i hope this helps.

Hi dannyhoward,I doubt you will hear from Linnea as she has not visited the forum since soon after this query was posted
I did notice quite a price difference between your mentioned mowers, the Cotech coming in at 179.99 & the EVO1536LI coming in at a fairly hefty 239.99

            Forever delayed

I see. Sorry I took so long getting back. Long story.

I saw that price difference too. I've been waiting to get hold of a spare battery for my mower, and the price was higher on amazon. It's different wherever you look though. £209 seems to be the settled price now.

I do notice there is a Worx 24v out there for £160 which is a cheaper than both. Don't know if I'd want anyless opower than 36v though. My evo is good, but the battery pack will only last so long and gives a good trim for a small space, but it's not going to cut through any tough brush, so i'd be weary of a less powerful battery again.
