  • You are on a desert Island

You are on a desert island and can only take (1) one piece of music, (2) one book and (3) have one luxury, just like on the radio programme.

Try to be concise, but what would they be and why?

    Mine are

    1) Maris Callas - The marriage of Figaro

Because I can close my eyes and be anywhere I want to be. The singing just takes me into places that are wonderful.

    2) The complete works of Shakespeare

I was going to originaly say the bible, some of you may know that I am a Christian, but as I am comfortable with my faith I would want something to challenge me. I am certain that with all that free time I would really get into the plays and finally understand the nuances that riddle them. More realistically its a bloody big book.

    3) A Firkin of 1998 Museum Real Rioja.

Well, with good wine, and this is, you are guaranteed some civility, even on a desert island.

When you say one piece of music, can it be one album or just one track ? I'm in a quandary just trying to narrow it down to about 12 albums so far !!

My album - this is so difficult as I could have chosen anyone from about 12, but have finally settled on "The Dreaming Sea" by Karen Matheson. This is her solo album, a mixture of Gaelic and English lyrics. She is probably better known as the lead singer with Capercaillie, a celtic folk rock band. Sean Connnery describes her as having "the voice of an angel" and I would have to agree. Some of the tracks make the hairs on the back of neck stand on end - brilliant!

My book - "101 uses for coconuts" was my first thought, but have opted for "Monty Python, The Scripts". Quite simply the funniest men ever !

My luxury - Would have to be my MP4 player, with the other 11 albums on it !!

SR the MP 4 is a bit of a cheat!
This kind of question takes me ages. Im very reflective and a very deep thinker even if it is hyperthetical!
Should have an answer by next week.!

Sorry Piglet but the music one is too difficult, so I plumped for one with associations.

Music, Falla's "Nights in the Gardens of Spain"

This was one of the best BBC promenade concerts I ever attended a gorgeous piece that is so relaxing. When I got home and watched the video of the broadcast I found that the camera trained on the conductor was at such an angle that my head was just over his shoulder.

Book, the complete works of Shakespeare.

I have never read them and it is the biggest book I can think of other than the bible.

Luxury, the best possible clockwork and solar powered, powerful, multi-band radio transmitter / receiver that money can buy.

If I cannot summon help on it I can at least listen to music and other people via it, thus preserving my sanity.

If the radio is prohibited then the alternative luxury would be my dog together with sufficient dog food to see out her days.

MUSIC - I would have "Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive" by Bing Crosby & the Andrew Sisters as it always helps me smile...if I could havea whole albumn I's have the soundtrack to the Singing Detective as it's full of fantastic Oldies.

BOOK - This is a hard one as I can't think of a novel that I would want to read over and over again and so I think I would go for something practical like The SAS Handbook or the River Cottage Year - can't decide which.

LUXURY - would have to be the internet, but I doubt I'd be allowed that, so I'd opt for my Dog as she's excellent company and loves swimming in the sea!

after pondering for what felt like ages i have come to the conclusion that the music one is too hard...

the book i'd take would be something practical so i wasn't completely useless like something about building with wood or cooking or a plant identification one so i didn't eat anything poisonous...

and the luxury item would depend on how i was feeling when i was packing, possibly a toothbrush or first aid kit or laptop with internet connection or my bed, or maybe a lorry with all my family, friends and boyfriend in it you have to let me have that

                          this is just too hard
stay safe, be happy, have fun

                            Oooh, interesting!

Music - Probably Clannad - Celtic Collection - full of wonderful tunes, relaxing yet empowering, tho I'd possibly be tempted by MCMXVII by Enigma, which is one of the best relaxing albums of all times, yet also empowering!

Book - The Boudicca series by Manda Scott, fantastic retelling of the Boudicca story, one of the few books to make me sob with grief, bite my nails with tension and laugh with humour, tho if limited to one book it would have to be either Dune by Frank Herbert or Watership Down by Richard Adams. (The SAS Survival Handbook is a great reference book, but it isnt something that you'd need to re-read once it was read)

Luxury - Mr D if I was allowed if not then a helicopter, fully fueled and with enough range to leave the island if I wanted (tho again I dont think it would be allowed). If neither of them, then either our dog Bella, a laptop with internet connection, or a nice hot shower!
                            Blessings
                            Suzanne (aka Mrs Dobby)

'Garden naked - get some colour in your cheeks'!

The Dobby's Pumpkin Patch - an Allotment & Beekeeping blogspot!
Last updated 16th April - Video intro to our very messy allotment!
Dobby's Dog's - a Doggy Blog of pics n posts - RIP Bella gone but never forgotten xx

Music: Damien Rice - O (beautiful)
Book: The Lord of the Rings (a classic, but still a good read!)
Luxury: a bikini (I love swimming, and no-one would see my fat backside!)
