Can you and how could you move a twenty year old wisteria which currently grows up our utility to make way for exciting new conservatory, if we can reposition would do any amount of digging to keep it, anyone done this? Thanks guys.

I'd certainly give it a go but be prepared for failure!
Wait till the dormant season, cut down the top growth (I'd go for waist height for a wisteria), dig up with as much rootball as possible (wrap to prevent soil falling away), replant and water lots for the next year. Protect from drying winds and full sun if necessary with shading.
    Good luck!

I would try to take a few cuttings out of the bits trimmed while attempting to move it. If the move fails, one or more of the cuttings may work. It gives you a possible 'back-up' option.

I love Wisteria - I'd put the Conservatory somewhere else!

I know, I wish I could but the wisteria was put in before we moved in, it is nearly thirty years old and this year looked absolutely beautiful and smelled out of this world.
Don't think haven't thought about could the conservatory go on the side at the back but simply not possible due to the layout of our house, it is an edwardian semi and narrows to the back and the only place is unfortunately where the wisteria is!
If it does not survive the move I will plant another though it will take along time to flower I realise that.
