    Why Are People Idiots?

    We have a Heaviest Pumpkin Competition on the plot each year - £3 to enter, £20 top prize. Hardly a massive purse so why does some .. (insert your own x-rated adjectives here ) go and do something like this to both my pumpkins :-

    It's not just the prize money - it's also each one would have provided a massive amount of food, probably around 15kg each when harvested.

            Beggars belief.
            Really frustrated/angry on your behalf.

            Be interesting to see if they seal/heal themselves....ya never know.

                That's so sad. You have to feel sorry for someone who behaves like this. I'm sure they don't even like themselves. Sorry about your crop too.
                Mostly flowers, some fruit and veg, at the seaside in Edinburgh.

                  Looks like finger nails to me as well. But that's fairly irrelevant what's done the damage. The fact it's been done is so out of order

                  If it is finger nails, you've got half a chance it will heal. I accidentally stabbed one of my pumpkins with my thumb nail. It's still growing well and has a nail shaped scare.
                  But as you have some many wounds you may not be so lucky.

                      No - definitely a knife, wider at one side and sharp at the other, like a thin triangle.

                      I'll take them off tomorrow as I doubt they'll heal. There's a couple of small fruit on that I was going to be taking off today - they might come to something, but not for the competition.

                      Last year one of the plot holders died. He had enjoyed the competition and this year we have a little cup named in his honour.

                          I'd leave them on. If the competition is for the heaviest (not the most perfect), you're in with a chance.
                          The idiot who did it will probably one of the competitors with a pathetic little pumpkin as well as a tiny mind.

                            I was thinking taking down my tea lights and covering the cuts with wax. If nothing else it's an experiment.

                            P/S/ Thinking about it that makes sense - you need a candle with a carved pumpkin/

                              Thats pretty sad that somebody would be so disrespectful, some people are foolish.
                              Try the wax, and as vc says, if its the competition for the heaviest then it doesn't matter what it looks like. Hope it works. Sending well wishes and good vibes to your pumpkins, im sure karma will deal with the culprit
