  • What's happened

Something has went wrong, I acquired a dozen thick 3X2 concrete slabs, ideal to put round my raised beds (I have just replaced the wood on one of them so I knew that I could safely remove the old wood on the remaining beds, so got started today once home from church, now I removed one side of a bed and using a sackbarrow I moved the slabs up the first was quite simple positioned the barrow and easy to swing the slab off and into position, the second however couldn't be positioned the same so tilted it up ready to lift into position and when I went to lift it, it was heavy now I am sure that it would have been no bother just a couple of months ago but now, now I struggled a bit, I wonder if it was something I ate, or if I have had too much Sun, I will need to go and ponder this to discover what has happened, after all it seems that it was just last week that I could have more or less moved it with one hand

it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

I hestitate to say that you're getting old, rary, as that would not be right. The truth is ............you are old and, whilst using saccharine may help your weight problem, it will not make you any younger.

If I lived nearer, I'd come and move them for you.

PS A sackbarrow will not help you lose weight.

Sounds like a temporary micro-gravity vortex developed in the near vicinity of the slab when you were trying to lift it - I get these quite often when something I use to be able to lift easily 40 years ago gets unaccountably much too heavy to pick up any more, for no apparent reason - I blame Einstein.

Nah... has it been raining recently where you are? The blocks have soaked up a load of water and are now heavier than when you bought them.

You are so right to hestitate,(I hesitated to put that word in but then thought humour the elderly) but I know one or two mistakes help keep your mind active and for someone of you age you need all the activity you can get

Stan I must say that is the most ridiculous thing to say,,, when do you think I ever buy anything

See my answer to your first quote
And I am going with nickdubs theory, it's a micro-gravity vortex

That proves how alert I am, a level of alertness only found in the young - but you wouldn't remember that.

I like nickdub's theory, but I suspect in fact that you've moved them closer to a black hole, so gravity is very strong and time has slowed down, meaning not only do they feel heavier but you're also holding on to them for longer than before.

                      Or something like that.

Ah, you've moved them slightly closer to Switzerland and the secret black hole which CERN created.

Best bet to test the theory of space and time distortion is to start two synchronised stop watches and leave one in the house while taking the other with you while moving the slabs - if they are out of synch after, then its definitely a gravitational distortion effect :-)

(if however one's in the sink, and the other is bust, you probably have Gremlins)

It's the same force that makes my leathers shrink in the off-season...

As it happens, I am walking like John Wayne today as our pond has developed large amounts of unpleasant algae and I have been removing it - only way to do this is to stand astride the pond and scoosh it out... Sore legs this morning.
