What I say and what I mean

It occurred to me this evening that I lie to my dear husband more in April, May and June than any other time of year (if we exclude the price of things I may have purchased )
I went down the garden earlier today just to 'water the greenhouse and tuck the seed trays away' which actually meant the above plus adding a few more buckets of manure into the flower beds, planting up a few more bedding plants and going to tut at the broad beans which aren't too enthusiastic about growing much at the moment. I came back guiltily 20 minutes later only to wipe mud on the carpet and make tea (which in hindsight probably gave me away) before going back out to 'put the cover back on the manure' I know- instant rookie mistake giving my earlier lie away but surely he knows it doesnt take me that long to water and tidy..
Anyway long story shot I came back 2 more buckets of manure and a tub of pulled nettle and bramble roots later and had forgotten that I'd put dinner in the oven before I'd gone back out
Bottom line I guess is that lies do not pay, even garden improving ones.. but my oh is very forgiving and he does a great cheese toastie
