  • What do you feed your dog

Hi can I ask people who have a dog what they feed them. I usually buy the boxes of a good make of complete dog food but they are now £1.69 for 1.5 kg which seems alot and they get through it very quickly. This week I bought a big bag of a differnt make 3kg for ££3.00. In Italy you can buy pasta for dogs huge bags for not very much at all and people cook up bones to go in it. What do you do

Mine eat a complete dry food (Arden Grange). I buy a 15kg sack which lasts about 3 weeks (for 2 large dogs of about 25-30kg each).

I used to feed them on cheaper, working-dog foods, but found that I ended up feeding more of the cheaper foods, as they are just bulked out with fillers (grain, pasta, rice etc), and that I'm feeding less of the Arden Grange and the dogs are satisfied and aren't pestering for scraps/more food/treats etc. Also, their tummies are a lot more settled, and it's easier to pick up poo etc as it's firmer (sorry!)

Personally, I would steer away from things like Bakers and Pedigree; and look towards Chappie or Wagg at the cheaper end of the spectrum, or James Wellbeloved, Arden Grange, or Burns at the more expensive end.

I have a nightmare with my two as one has an allergic reaction to anything with feathers! I would not feed them Pedigree Chum as it is the human equivalent of Junk Food when you look at what is in it! I have used Nature Diet (Wet Food), Burns (expensive and they lost weight), Skinners (lost masses of weight), I now get their food from Pet Supplies, Pet Food, Dog Food, Cat Food and Pet Accessories at Zooplus as I find they have a huge selection not available elsewhere and its cheap - I also use the link from Top CashBack - The UK's Most Generous CashBack Site which means I get money back as well. I feed them Rocco wet food - Salmon, Venison and Reindeer is favourite (£29.99 for 24 800g cans) and Lukullus dry food.
I have tried Raw meat which is sold cheaply in the pet shops here but it lead to trips to the vets as it upset them so much.

May the wind be always at your back,

Jake has Wagg or Tezzies own , we have no problems with him. He also has any veg that's left over from our dinner and other meat scraps. (no bones) He is also partial to a bit of scrumping from the apple tree or the fruit bowl /veg rack.

Pets at Home is the only make that doesnt upset both of mine, but Dutch(Bull Mastiff) is quite partial to blackberries straight from the cane despite the thorns, and poppies and lettuce,in fact anything that she can munch

Currently James Wellbeloved but I buy a different brand every time as they seem to get bored with one thing (cats too) plus lots of scraps. (and she seems to like pigeon poo too...)

Naturediet is what I use, I steer clear of commercial dog food as it typically contains high levels of sugar.

Ludo gets Gelert dry complete dog food. Sometimes he gets chicken and rice and other times I get him the ocean fish flavour (which he doesn't like) as taking him off meat based food stops him getting so smelly.
