  • What to do in Dorset?

    Hi,

I am surprising the OH with a weekend in Dorset for his birthday. I have accommodation and evening meals sorted, but would like some ideas for things to do in the day. It will be mid-Dec.

    We're open to anything.

    Ta very much.

I am not sure that I can be of much help as we do not go out much ourselves. Give me a clue as to the nearest town and I will do some research. It would help to know what his interests are. Dorset, in general, is a very laid back place. Not much 'up town' venues.

I agree with NorthPaul - there are some superb walks on the Purbecks particularly from Corfe Castle to Studland and Old Harry rocks along the hill tops - great views.

For an indoor venue the tank museum is fascinating or there is always Monkey World.

We're going to Beaminster and I was thinking of popping to Bridport. We like food and gardening. I wondered if there were any hot houses nearby. We're not the most active of people, esp OH.

Beaminster is a really pretty town, I enjoyed visiting it very much.
Forde Abbey Gardens are lovely, and open year round - they are well worth a visit and are much bigger than they first appear, but there are lots of benches.

So it very much depends what you are into. Beamister is very 'olde world' and fascinating when you know the history. If you venture south to Bridport we woud be delighted if we could meet up for a beer or two. The Electric Palace, Bridport is a old cinema (now boutique) that has spectacular shows. Look it up.
