  • Valentine's Day 2013!

Thought I'd open a thread where we can keep any Valentines ideas together!

What are your plans for this year?

We have 8 peeps coming over to help munch their way through one of our geese.
It's a good excuse for me to Spring Clean ( well- rearrange builders dust and grit!) , have yummy nosh , and a darn good natter with our closest friends.
Also a good excuse for me to put on a frock .

Log fire- lots of candles-good company , and hopefully good food and wine.Brill.

    Looking forward to it!

smy buffday so I get loadsa cards. Was great when I wasin school cos I could show the envelopes and I'd get my sister to write the silly whatsits on them. Absolute whizz eh what chaps. Anyway I digress/tangentise. her ladyship tells me markies have improved their meal deal so if I want we can eat at home with that and the plonk, or she will cook what I want even a nice steak and she hates red meat herself so that's a biggie, or we can go out. I'm a home bird but I'll point down the road of Markies or a fish or chicken dish

Think I'll plump for a duvet day...........I've never had one before.

i'll be lucky if Mr W even realises!!!!!!! No 2 son at home,so no romance happening in the Wadders household!!!

Seriously though we 'don't do' valentines - waste of money, we tend to have our romantic dinners the first night of any break away, although I do have some nice scallops in the freezer might do something special with them

Will probably buy myself some nice fleurs though!

As I probably said last year and the year before, I think that Valentine's day is probably the most unromantic day of the year. Being told by the media that you should buy cr&p for your loved one just because it's a certain time of the year is ridiculous. You also have the opportunity to go out for an overpriced meal, often with a set menu when you'll be mithered by somebody trying to send you poor quality roses. If my OH came home randomly with some flowers or suggested a nice meal out at a favourite restaurant I'd find that lovely but I'd much rather he did it off his own accord not because an advert tells him to and goodness knows what it's like for lonely singletons . Thankfully this year we've remembered to have the conversation and agreed not to do cards etc so there is no risk of that awkward moment when one of us has fallen into the commercial trap.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

We don't buy gifts either- it's just a good excuse for a bit of nicer nosh than usual

One of my only Valentine cards from my OH was written on a couple of pieces of loo paper folded, like a card, along the perforations!...yeh
                - and I loved i!

I've seen the M&S meal on the TV- looks nice!

My dress code for our Valentine meal is
                girls.....pretty
                boys...handsome!

It'll make a grand change for all of us not to be wearing gardening/DIY clobber!

We saw an advert last night that suggested if he bought a £5 pound bunch of roses "He must love me", if he bought a £10 bunch "He must really love me" etc.

I turned to OH and said "If you really loved me, you'd bring me manure". He gave me a funny look.

wowee Nicos, your OH really knows how to treat a girl . I always give my lady 2 doz red roses(only a fiver per dozen at T***O.) and a nicely worded card. She's told me to only make it a dozen this year mind. It will make me feel like a cheapskate if I do that. The flowers last a remarkable long time as well and it makes her feel special. Nuff said

That'd be my choice of gift too Plot10 ( that's if we 'did' gifts)
I too hate all the commercialism "if you love her/him" rubbish....a lovely cuddle and a loving snog would do it for me!

When my kids were at home I always made a Valentine meal- and invited my widowed mom too- all about sharing a bit of love in my eyes!

Most of my meal this year has been home produced- so I'm quite proud of that!

We might take a nitpic up to the Spot tomorrow - supposed to be a bit of sun hanging about around lunchtime. Other than that, it'll just be cards exchanged. I'm making mine....done the sewing bit, now need to assemble an actual card.

I have absolutely loved some of the cheap and really effective Valentine's things on Craftgawker and StumbleUpon. There was a fab tutorial for a pop-up card.

It's a big deal in the States - it bit much fuss for me - but I love how they make it a special day for everyone, decorate the house etc. Yeah...I know it's commercial...but, hey!

You could always mix the roses with any other flower. Tesco's are good at that......
