  • Uni student welcome pack/goody bag

My daughter's friend is off to Uni and she wants to put together a goody pack for her. She is staying in catered accommodation, but it would be nice for her to have some home comforts.

Any suggestions about what would be good or even what not to put in for whatever reason?

Hmm speaking from really recent expericence of halls I would suggest ear plugs, cookies, cup a soups (emergency food rations for when someone steals your food/you run out of loan), coffee mate or some kind of powdered milk for emergencies. Those are things I would considder necessary now things that may be counted as nice/homely, pot plant I have to agree with especially if it is something like a nice fragrent herb too. I nice picture is always nice too or generally anything which would brighten up the place because halls are quite dull.

              Student cookbook..??

Seriously though, my son went to uni last year, and the most useful things were a tin opener for the beans or other snacks that always come in tins, sandwich toaster, cups and a sheet for the bed!

Tins of beans, spaghetti hoops etc; packets of supernoodles, cup a soups - stuff that can be cooked with just 1 pan/bowl/mug and are quick (rather than going to the canteen)

                      Tea bags/coffee
                      Loo roll/tissues/wet ones

Alarm clock, as at some point she'll have to attend lectures!

Nice bed sheets, flip flops (for going to the bathroom in)

Nice range of spices, big fluffy towel, loo roll, bin bags, loads of 3 minute noodles [@ 10p a packet, much better value than supernoodles - hence the spices above] and a bag of onions and a bag of spuds. And some coffee and tea.

Today' Guardian has a student cookbook with it. Some of the recipes look like things I'd like to try!

Rubber gloves, washing up liquid, washing-up sponges, tea-towels, antibacterial hand spray and paracetamol.

Also chocolates, biscuits and cakes for the wellbeing factor.
