One good thing about dentures is you can always take them out when they ache!!

Yes I've got three caps on my front teeth.
I had valium when having it done, but that's because I have a real phobia of dentistry.
Edit - they drill the teeth to be capped down to 'pegs' and fix the cap to that.
Does it last, seems too, still have original caps on two front teeth from about 15 years ago.
Its not cheap even by NHS.

At age 52½ I only have one missing toof (pretty good I think consider the amount of acidic wine I drink) and all others are pretty strong and sorted following my investment in my Dentist's BMW fund earlier this year.
One filling keeps breaking tho
and the only option is capping says Dentist

ok so here is my toof situation...
....end toof at bottom left (looking at me) is the missing toof - the one next to it (if it were still there!) is the one that keeps breaking
So - can I function, eat, drink, be balanced etc without the 'keep breaking' toof (the one to be capped) or should I get it fixed and keep it?
Bearing in mind, like SBP I too have a dental phobia, although slightly subsided phobia due to very nice dentist man seeing dosh going into his BMW fund.aka

i have always had a dental phobia, till i got a new dentist and he does stuff now without needles ........ tis great, cos i now realised i'm not scared of the dentist just the needles
anyway, had a crown done last year, no it didn't hurt, and yes i had a injection cos it would hurt without, he filed it down to a peg then he took moulds of my teef, then added a temp crown ..... went back 2 weeks later and had the proper one fitted ...... never felt a thing ...... only problem after that was 2 weeks later i was grinding my teef at night, and i snapped it off completely ........ so i had to have the root drilled out and a metal peg put in for the toof to fit onto ....... and nope that didn't hurt either, though the injections are evil, cos i'm terrified of em . .... but yes i'd have it done again... and i'm the biggest wimp going... he reckoned it should last 10-15 years.
i'm still not sure which toof you keep breaking, is it at the back?? i have one missing at the back no problem, if it's at the front and cosmetic, ie can be seen then i'd do it

Hi Piskie, just for a change this is Shirley on Madmax's login. I have a load of crowns (or caps) which were done when Aranthos was a baby. They have lasted pretty well. Like SBP, mine were done under valium due to dentist phobia (now trying to find another NHS dentist that will do work for me).
Two years ago one of my crowns gave up as the root of the original tooth had broken up. Cost of replacement privately with valium will be around 500 quid as there is no root to put a standard crown on and they have to do something exotic sounding (I was sat in the dentist chair quaking so not paying full attention to the information) Let's go diggin' dirt....

I say have it done - look how great they always look on '10 Years Younger' when they've had the teeth work bit done. I would love to get mine done. I had braces when under maternity cover as I had a slight overlap and they are much better now (although I am told I was the only one who could see it lol). If I had the money I would have veneers and whitening. I hate to see people with manky teeth! Think veneers last about 10 years or so depending on how well you look after them.
Is it causing you any grief?
