  • Sugar Is Toxic

    Saw this thought I'd post

Sugar should be controlled 'like tobacco and alcohol' | Mail Online

In an article entitled The Toxic Truth About Sugar, published in the journal Nature, the scientists add: ‘A little is not a problem but a lot kills – slowly.’

The U.S. authors warn obesity is now a bigger problem than malnourishment across the world, and that sugar not only makes people fat but also changes the body’s metabolism, raises blood pressure, throws hormones off balance and harms the liver.

The damage done mirrors the effects of drinking too much alcohol – which the scientists point out is made from distilling sugar.

That just had to be a Daily Mail story didn't it. That rag loves a good health scare, especially if they can include cancer along the way.

Anyone remember the MMR debacle. That was largely promoted by the Daily Mail.

Wouldn't use it to replace my roll of Andrex, if you get my meaning.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.

I haven't eaten sugar (glucose based) for three years now. It has definitely made a difference to me. I used to be quite quick tempered and easily irritated by little things, but now I'm much more chilled and very rarely get impatient with anyone. Also, sugar makes you hungry, since it is a quick fix energy source, quickly depleted, leaving you craving more.

The best thing about giving up sugar though, (although I suspect lots of people won't agree) is that CHOCOLATE has no hold over me any more. In fact, it smells rather sickly sweet.

And everything tastes sweeter - I drink cocoa occasionally, that is, plain cocoa powder with milk, and sweeten it with a dash of vanilla extract.

If I do want a sweet dessert or cake, then I use honey, or very occasionally fruit sugar, which is similarly low GI.

The only thing I miss sometimes is biscuits, because honey doesn't make crisp biscuits, and fructose makes them brown too much.

Oh, and my BP is 115 over 60, but whether that's the no sugar diet or just me, who knows?

OMG ......yet another health scare......... It's common sense that anything to excess is bad for you . One glass of red wine is good - one bottle of red wine would be toxic.
Well I'm sorry I blame processed and fast foods (have you tasted how sweet a MaccyD's burger bun is ? ) ....too much sugar and salt hidden in them.
Honey is not ideal as a substitute unless a- you are rich or b- you produce your own and it's rubbish for jam making (burns too easily ) and other preserving.

I don't see the problem - a woman can eat one and a half Mars bars a day and a man can eat 2. I've never managed to eat more than one Mars a day so I'm not going to worry about it!

I don't like Mars Bars or even chocolate so someone else can eat my share.

Depends how much you use. I'm not using it as a substitute - most of the time I have everything unsweetened, but if I have visitors to tea, I will make a honey cake, and I do keep a bag of sugar for guests who can't manage without sugar in drinks, and if I make to give away, (to friends, or church fete etc) then I use sugar. And my annual 4 pots of blackberry & apple jam are made with fructose and they last me the whole year. In fact, I still have jam from 2007 to use up yet.

As far as I know sugar is a carbohydrate?
Auld (now deceased) Atkins has been preaching for years that carbs are bad for you anyway.
