Call me mad, I don't care....Just got back from Asda....................I love mangetout so bought some. When we got home, I had a mad idea. I took some seeds out of the mangetout to dry out. What are the chances of getting them to germanate?.......1% would be good...........

BM I think your best bets are Jilly's offer - I suspect the seeds from the seed packet are a lot bigger than the ones sold to be eaten in their pods - I reckon they are picked as mangetout way before they become viable as a seed.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I've saved the seeds from a long red pointy sweet pepper and got fantastic results. I've got some drying on the kitchen wildowsill from last week's supermarket pepper for this year!

I would reckon that peas need to dry in the pod before they'll be viable though. Try leaving a mangetout pod on the windowsill for a few weeks on some kitchen paper till it's crispy - the pod not the paper!

In September I left a forgotten dried out broadie on the bench on my lottie - wondered what the line of green was last week - turned out to be the whole pod, split open, with a nice row of germinated beans still in situ!

Chances are it won't work BM, but you won't know for sure if you don't try will you?
