  • slow death of garden message boards.

I have been reading this and 10 other garden message for several years now.
It seems that most slowly loosing members and quality of the member posts is decreasing. This is not just season thing. I do not mean seasonal changes in number posts people make for being stuck in house due to weather .
Maybe i am wrong or maybe I am right. I could also be that other services are siphoning posters away but either way something needs to be done to fix or encourage more participation.

It's normal in summer time. Most folks are outside tending their gardens

You mean there are other garden forums, like the Grapevine, Lacysue?
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

It's more likely that after years of reading message boards where the same questions get asked over and over it is you as an 'old' participator that has changed...

I would post some interesting stuff but if do it you usually get hijacked by off topic posts
by other posters, post chitchat or posters who say the idea will not work even though is has been successfully used for years by others. But just make happy I will post a strawberry idea I saw posted elsewhere.

I agree. It does get a bit like 'Groundhog Day' after a while!

A bi-product of getting older though is your memory starts to fail you so each day is a new horizon with new questions and thread titles you've never seen before!

Sorry but anyone who has only posted 16 times here is hardlly entitled to complain about the quality and quantity of posts...

                  So, if it's boring then you have a choice;

                  Option A: Leave
Option B: Make it more interesting by posting interesting new threads.

Option C: 'Complaining but doing nothing' is pointless and will achieve nothing.

If you'd like to see the board becoming more to your liking then you have to do a little instigating. No one is going to make things more interesting for you. We hardly know you so we have no idea of your likes or dislikes.

I suppose you will post a link to the "other services" to which you refer shortly. This looks spam like to me.

                      Hi

What evidence do you have to back up this claim?

Why do you feel that you have to post a thread like this, 5 days after you join?

Fantastic....go on- we're more than interested!

..and yes of course subjects are covered year in year out- but with different Grapes contributing each year this forum certainly doesn't stagnate.

...and this forum - remember- is also directed to newbie growers too- who may not even know some of the basic gardening terms such as 'bolted'.
Isn't that part of the fun of being part of a caring community- to share and pass on knowledge and experiences????

Please do contribute and don't be 'en guarde' before you get to know us.

..and yes- this is summertime- and it'd be weird if most of us aren't getting on and enjoying our shared interest/hobby- by tending our crops, harvesting and slaving over a hot stove. That's what it's all about - and I'm sure you will agree with that?

Looking forward to some interesting threads from you

Oh, i dunno if what you say is true or not. I personally dont have the time to research it.

BUT, if you have been reading 10 similar boards for several years now, then i am sure you have a wealth of knowledge to share with other gardners.

This is a place where i can get help for my particular growing needs. I feel comfortable on it.

Each to their own. Why not post a thread of your own to give us an idea of the kind of thing you are talking about. I have no idea what kinda stuff you mean.

You see for me, i think there is a lot more available these days in the form of forums like this. BUT you have been reading them for several years now, so who i am to disagree.

Hope you find what you are looking for and if not, why not start one of your own to cater to your needs.

Children seldom misquote you. In fact they usually repeat word for word what you shouldn't have said

Oy you lot.......stop being so catty to a new member! Whatever happened to the vine being the laid back 'place to be'? Give the gal a chance to elaborate and the thread may turn into something interesting!

PS Notwithstanding the last two posts which managed to squeeze in while I was doing my one finger plodding!

I come on here, and indeed it is the only forum on which I post, as I saw that this was a welcoming place to be, where I could post what I considered to be schoolboy silly questions. Having looked at some of the other posts made by the OP, I am afraid I find the tone a little harsh.

It's not being catty Snadger, just protective.
