  • Sharon Shoesmith dismissed

Without compensation and with immediate effect.

Lost job after disciplinary, due to 'loss of faith and respect for her'

As the person in charge of Haringey child services, the buck stops there, even though others face proceedings too.
No child should ever suffer the way that little boy did.

you takes the job, you takes the cr@p, sorry if she doesn't deserve it , but thats politics.

which changes nothing, they need to stop the bloomin blame game and actually shake up the system so it works, and even then, some will slip through. these jobs are no longer sinicures, they NEED to be done properly, even if it costs you a career it can save a life if you speak up.

Life, systems, politics, parenting, it's all imperfect ... but we deserve systems that minimise risk as far as possible. Shoesmith should have resigned.

yes she should, not because she has done anything wrong, but because its what is expected at her level!!!

thats the shame of it, she was not there to do a job, she was there to take the blame when it all went wrong, and got paid a damn good wage for it, then had the CHEEK to not resign....tsk tsk .....

maybe they should start employing people to DO the job.

don't apologise, sadly i think that is what it has come to, these jobs are not real jobs anymore, they are political appointments, the deal is take the money and take the blame, how does that help all the baby p's? it's become fashionable to call realists cynics.

                Now I will be cynical.
Con yourself into a job you are not up to cock it up & get paid off look at some company directors.

its only a conspiracy theory if its not true, its only cynical if its not reality.

And so she should be gone and all the others that dont listen when they are being told things that they can do something about but choose not to. To all the kids out there that are suffering because some one isnt listening wether its a baby that cannot talk to a teenager that cannot make themselves heard, Love and hugs come your way. Keep on talking find someone who will listen and most of all its not your fault.

It's not cynical BW; companies now will forecast into their finance the paying off of people that are only there to take the blame...it is actual [unwritten] policy that the next one in line is only there until it goes wrong. If they can get away with not paying it, they get the payoff as a bonus.

The thing is when people are promoted in some places, and don't realise their main job is from then on - just to cover their back. It's quite sad seeing people who don't click that this is what is happening...I've unfortunately seen it so many times - the cycle just speeds up into overdrive when it's a plc.

They don't believe me either when I try to explain it to them...they just call me cynical - and then one day they are gone. One director at one of the companies I worked at, disappeared off the face of the earth to the extent that his best mate [who is a friend of a friend] has never seen him since. Either he hasn't or he's still very loyal and SAYS he hasn't. But still...

I'm not in those circles anymore - too much stress. i now flit in and out of companies [consultant] and leave them to their own politics.

Yes she should have walked, she was placed in a position of ultimate trust and failed, but does it really right the wrong?
Sadly as long as there are children there will be neglected children, and tragic cases, like baby P and Victoria Klimbier (sp?), will continue to occur.
As has been said, the entire system needs an overhaul, but also the way social workers and case workers are looked at needs to be changed. They are either interfering busybodies when found to be over zealous (the Orkneys child sex ring case) or incompetent when they miss something. They are under resourced, understaffed and (imo) terribly underpaid when you consider the responsibilities they have on their shoulders. I dont mean at Shoesmith's level, but the footsoldiers who are out there, often in very difficult and even dangerous situations.

I notice that with all this about Haringey (sp), the poor baby girl in Doncaster has been forgotten, her 'father' snapped her back in two, but i've not seen anything about the Social Services there being brought to book, so just how rife is it and how many more cases are those that should be brought to book getting away with because they've managed to keep it under wraps.
