  • School parking issues

    https://axainsurancezone.com/axa-hel...round-schools/

Axa just sent me an email about their road safety scheme (Cynical me - I know it's an insurance company trying to appeal to people, but I know this is a major issue at loads of schools)

RoadSafe Schools Assessment Form there to download and fill in.

If only they were interested in taking car regs of bad parkers and penalising them!

I think your cynicism is justified alldigging. School parking is a major issue for me (less though since a bit of direct activism). I think this is just AXA trying to say they're good guys. Most online surveys end with a click, this one says you have to either scan and send your completed form, email AXA or print off and send via post. Cos busy, distracted parents will have the time and energy to find out about that and then faff about with the details, eh? :/

I took direct action today. Parents have been repeatedly asked not to park in the school car park, because 200 children are using it to walk out of the school at home time.

Today, one fat guy came and parked in the yard, sat in his car, didn't even bother to get out to meet his child. So I shut the school gate behind me when I left He might still be in there!

The last question on the survey is "Notes: Here, please tell us of any obstacles or other road layout issues within 200 yards of the school entrance which could be deemed as dangerous to a child arriving or leaving the school"

        LOL

Alldigging....are axa trying to find out if there are issues that would mean they wouldn't have to pay out on an accident if it did happen....maybe I'm even more cynical than you

Don't know! Maybe they want to reduce accidents so they pay out less?

Round DS' school, the most effective parking control is the Bristol City Council CCTV car driving up and down at school drop off/ pick up times....

Unfortunately, it doesn't stop the SUV-driving horror mummies from parking in the doctor's sugery car park and swearing at the staff...

Yes, swearing & shouting is now an acceptable way to get your own way.

I was called a b!tch by a taxi driver after asking her to remove her cab from my cycle lane, where she'd parked on it, totally blocking my route

I hope you reported her. They conveniently have a number on the back of the cab.

I got her on my bike cam, yeah. I have reported abuse & poor driving by bus & taxi drivers before, to the police and my MP, and it achieves nothing.
The last resort is just to put them on You Tube, try to shame them into behaving better

The taxi licencing department at the council is the place to send them.

Was it a mini cab TS? I find a call to their office with registration, number etc to complain about them can help.

I asked a mini cab driver to move off the yellow zigzags outside school a couple of years ago. His response was to bellow 'if you make me miss my fare, I'll...I'll'. I held my ground, smiled and said 'you'll what?'. He drove off and I haven't seen him since but I added intimidation to my list of complaints when I rang his firm. I'm a petite middle aged woman and I was genuinely scared.
