  • Saturday's Puzzle.

    Ok - you know the drill - here is another one....enjoy!

    You can have up to three clues - but I'm sure you won't need them!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Three identical looking umbrellas are sitting upright in a stand. Assuming the owners don't check their umbrellas' labels what percentage chance is there that only two people will walk off with their own unbrella?
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    I love to talk about nothing. It's the only thing I know anything about!!

        Too simple Jacob, the brollys may LOOK the same, but each person wants their own brolly.

        Come on Bride - think about it!

                    Assuming that each person takes the umbrella away after they have selected it, i get the following:

                    Four scenarios

                    Person 1 picks and its wrong
                    Person 2 picks and its wrong
                    Person 3 picks and its wrong
                    0% chance of 2 people getting the right umbrella

                    Scenario 2

                    Person 1 picks and its right
                    Person 2 picks and its wrong
                    Person 3 picks and its wrong
                    25% chance of 2 people getting the right umbrella

                    Scenario 3

                    Person 1 picks and its wrong
                    Person 2 picks and its right
                    Person 3 picks and its right
                    40% chance of 2 people getting the right umbrella

                    Scenario 4

                    Person 1 picks and its right
                    Person 2 picks and its right
                    Person 3 picks and its right
                    100% chance of 2 people getting the right umbrella

                    So the average of 100%, 40%, 25% and 0% would be 55%

                    The % chance that 2 people will walk of with their own umbrellas would be 55%....

                    Or do i need a clue, it is Sat morning after all?!!?!

                            I'm with Andrea with that...if 2 peeps have their own - then so does the third- so you can't have ONLY 2 peeps- has to be either one, or all three

                            so 0% is my answer

                              So i didn't make coffee, still thinking about it!

                              As there are four possible scenarios and two of them would result in 2 people getting the right umbrella would it be 50%
