    swings and roundabout in my gardening quest; comments and advise appreciated;

    rhubarb and strawberries doing well. lots of flowers and little strawbs. a couple of leaves have some wilting on edge- could be the windy site?

    blueberry bush growing well, but still a lonely bush - no sign of flowers or berries

    redcurrent bush which is sited near blueberry, and was doing well, has wilted and died

    gooseberries not doing that well- can i resite them at this stage of summer, and still get some fruit this year?

    iceberg lettuce has bolted, but a couple have a halfhearted head growing in middle- i have never managed to grow them. sited in a fairly shady sheltered spot.

    lollo rosso and rocket doing well- planted in same place as iceberg's
    a continental salad mix is also in same place and doing well

    spring onions- little midgets- have hardly grown

    carrots seem to be growing and healthy

    swede are getting very big leaves and thick at soil level too, so i think they are ok.

    radichio seedlings - only sowed about 10 days ago, so very small, but have sprouted. ditto beetroot

    patty pain?(those little flying saucer courgettey things) havent sprouted, sown at same time.

    pumpkins are about a foot high now, were about 3" high when i put them in, so is this about right, for about a months growth? put them at side of muckheap. with a small rhubarb, which is not doing as well as the rhubarb i planted in a tub with muckheap soil and compost mixture

    garlic, have doubled or trebled in size

    tumbling toms.- loads of flowers, but no sign of tomatoes forming. 2 plants together - should i brush one plant and then the other to pollinate them?? i have a couple of wilted leaves on each plant?

    plum tree- not doing very well- has green leaves which havent really opened- think i should move it to a sunnier spot.

    the raised bed which i intended to make, has been shelved for the time being due to having to fill it with soil, which involves quite a walk and a climb over a fence, and i wrecked my knee a few weeks ago, so except for the muckheap grown things, everything is in giant tubs and large buckets.

    is it sounding ok so far as a starter/ returner garden? trying to grow what i cant buy cheaply or what i think will be fairly successful, and can add to it next year.

    did have a salad last weekend with my salad leaves and my bantams eggs, and a homemade blue cheeze dressing, and it did taste satisfying. ( having one today too!)
