Did you watch it, who in your opinion came out well?
I thought both GB & NC gave a good account of themselves but thought DC was weaker than expected. I particulary liked the way GB thanked DC for all of the publicity posters.

I am keeping out of this one, I suspect it could all turn a bit heated BM !

I thought Nick Clegg came out on top, which I don't think came as much of a surprise. Gordon Brown, well what can one say. Best I keep quiet.

        I watched parts of it.
What I particularly liked was to hear them actually 'partially' answering the questions rather than rolling off some prepared speech which had little to do with the question.
Also- the fact that they had to shut up after one minute and let someone else speak instead of talking over them.
And- there were no MPs cackling in the background!!

and (what I was particularly pleased about) was that having run through that thread earlier on the Vine about party policies, I was actually more aware of their policies!

Normally I can't manage to sit through any of the " And here is a Party Political broadcast on behalf of the xxx Party" broadcasts...so this was a bit of a first for me!

I only caught bits of it and only because OH channel hops during advertisement breaks, so I caught bits of darts as well! Pity really because I would have been interested to see what happened about free care for the elderly. My long deceased mum bless her had to use all her savings and the proceeds of her house sale to pay for her nursing home, while other residents had nothing to pay.

Just nipped back in here to apologise - the thread's not really about issues is it? I thought the debate was a good idea because I agree, it' got to be better than those boring PP broadcasts.

Didn't bother watching. I expected it to be totally stage-managed. And it appears to me that whatever they say before an election, none of them actually give a **** about us ordinary people.

I appreciate what you mean Liza & that is not my intention. Whatever comments I made did not indicate one way or the other who my fav party is. I enjoyed the programme & hope this thread does not get heated. I would rather it be removed first.

I love answering the door to party candidates! I enjoy telling them what I think of their policies and watching them sqirm!
Recently son and heir opened the door to the local tory candidate and just put his arm up like Citizen Smith and shouted, 'power to the people' and shut the door it was hilarious!
We have the full breadth of political opinon in our house ranging from a hubbie who is further right of atilla the hun to son and heir who is more communist than socialist and me in the middle so we tend to be tolerant and there is lots of eye rolling and knowing smiles when watching such debates from different chairs and political viewpoints in the living room. Makes for an interesting life!

Somewhat surprisingly it wasnt shown on Algeria TV, but I saw the concept and the build up on BBC World.
Must say I like the idea of it, 1 minute each, no clapping/cheering/jeering/bombing/petting.

Interested to see peoples opinions on what they thought of the format.

What was telling was how our incumbent Mr Brown continually kept saying he agreed with Mr Clegg in a vain attempt to hang on to his shirt tails. There was a hillarious picture of Gordon in yesterdays times coming through a pair of doors with two of his lackeys holding them open whilst on their hands and knees in a vain attempt to be out of the photo shot. It made him look like an emperor from the distant past.

For me, Nick took his opportunity very well and was by far the best on the night, Dave did ok but not the performance he would have hoped, and Gordon was weak and showed his bullying trait by continuously cutting across the other two.

Will any of it change my mind, not yet.

DC really surprised me, I thought he would have been a lot stronger & tore GB to shreads. I thought towards the end it got a bit repetitive. NK & Trident, DC & Labours Job Tax, GB & Conservatives 6 billion cut. All in all I thought a good concept.

i didnt watch it, but i do wish poor old gordon got a fairer press- he's not so bad, i think he has done a good job with what has been handed to him, tho he could do more. but what can he do, or the others? the whole system needs a total rethink. i personally wish they would send out a survey to every single voter to find out what we really care about, and a blank page for each of us to offer suggestions. then i wish they would act on them.

i personally dont particularily care about a lot of the issues they prioritize- i wish they would up the minimum wage to about 10 pounds an hour, ( they can give the businesses a tax credit instead of individuals) and cap the cost of living. no income tax until you earn over 12,000- i believe that is the poverty level? refuse to pay for the upkeep of more than one single parent child, and not put them to the top of the housing queue. make affordable housing actually affordable, and give a lot more proirity to animal welfare. stop telling everyone they deserve a university education, when there arent the jobs to justify it- far better and just as interesting careers without, but the wages need to be realistic. make all polititians live in a bedsit, as a second home, and pay the rent only, get all the bonuses back, and dont pay them ever again- sack those bankers!!! oh, and fill in potholes!!!
