  • potato replacement

As above really, Im looking for something to replace potatos with (for hubby) he can be funny about food and doesnt like rice or pasta or anything but loves potatos. Is there anything that has a similar sort of taste/texture and that can be used in the same way? Sorry if it seems an odd question xx

When I was doing the Atkins diet I used to have mashed swede with lashing of butter instead of tatties. Apparently swede is low in carbs!

Swede and parsnips would also have been our mainstay diet until Sir Walter Raleigh put his oar in!

Brilliant Jeanied, lost a couple of stones.............. but I got sick of having to source and cook my own food!
Now I just eat what OH serves up!

She gets annoyed and asks if there was something the matter with it if I don't return for seconds each time!

You could make gnocchi out of the potatoes. Very versatile thing to be able to make.

How about polenta? You can have that as a 'mash', fried, or grilled etc.

What is it about rice and pasta he dislikes? Even the finest sort hardly has a strong flavour; just a better texture generally.

                      I was thinking polenta too.

                      Mashed celeriac?

I like mashed swede and carrots too. I think you can mash (or maybe puree) beans and lentils in to a mashy like consistency, dont know if your OH would like that. You can add garlic or herbs to improve the taste.

I reckon I would like anything mashed!!!

I dug a load up today and will be heading to the post office tomorrow. Can always go again if you're interested and don't get an order in on time though.

I'd forget trying a direct replacement and go for bread. Real, tasty bread. Staff of life from ancient times.
