  • Please exercise care on allotment plots

Don't wish to be voice of doom but please be careful when you're on your plots. Went up the allotment yesterday and on my partner's instructions (don't know why I listened to him as I don't usually) took down one of the hanging baskets to water/feed it. Put the liquid feed in the watering can and instead of going the long way round to fill it, came out of the shed, put my foot on the little step, unfortunately my foot slipped sidewards and ended up lying on the plot feeling quite sorry for myself. Ooooh the pain in my foot.

After having a sleepless night (as couldn't get comfy) got up this morning and had a good look at my foot - it was twice as big as the other one, had started to bruise and felt like someone was standing on it. Don't really like hospitals but thought I'd better get it checked it out - thankfully my neighbour took me and brought me back as my partner works in Rotterdam most weekdays. Thankfully its only a bad sprain - need to rest it for a few days. My partner, bless him, says its obviously his fault as I was doing the hanging baskets at his request.

The morale of the story is please take care of yourselves out there. I know there's people who've (sadly) had worse accidents but my foot hurts and will restrict me for several more days. Thankfully my partner's scheduled to come back home tonight so he'll be looking after me - think its the least he can do.

Ouch, Toastie - sounds very painful. Make sure he waits on you a bit! Hope it gets better soon, sprains can be difficult, I'm told.

Ouchie ouch ouch - I've done both my ankles at different time of my life so you have my full sympathy. Make sure you do rest it properly and be careful for a good few months, they're a bit weak for quite a while after.

Hi thanks for all your kind thoughts. Thankfully the swelling has started to go down but my foots a nice shade of green/yellow with the bruising. Didn't get as much sympathy as hoped when OH got home as he thinks I'm a clumsy so and so anyway. He's gone one better and put his back out but as he's back to Rotterdam tomorrow we'll just both have to get on with it separately. Anyway, I plan to get back up the allotment tomorrow (being extremely careful of course) as missed almost a week.
