  • personality and plant compatability?

i wonder whether we as personalities, have a compatability with certain plants. it just strikes me that i have success with some plants and not such good results with others- wondering if other people have noticed the same. for instance, i am consistant in not being able to grow gooseberries, in different places and different years, but they never do well- this year my nieghbors plants are laden, my plants have 1 lonely goozegog between them! this also extends to redcurrent- it has shriveled and died for no apparant reason.

Raspberries. Ugh. The canes arrive alive and never see the light of day again. Oh, and curcubits that require greenhouse growing.

Chillies seem the most successful - I wonder if that's good or bad for my personality.

Yup, me too. Even if I manage anything they are too small to be a mouthful. Ever hopeful though, I have planted a row this year

Swede. And you wouldn't write home about my carrots or garlic either!

Am very hit and miss with veg, but love growing herbs and flowers from seed. Perhaps I deliberately pick easy ones but I get so much pleasure from them.

Well chuffed to see honeysuckle I bought as a very spindly thing about 3-4 years ago now much fuller and covered in flower buds for the very first time

I had ONE good year of garlic about five years ago but have had no joy with it since!
Its not for the want of trying though! I've planted in spring/summer and autumn. I've used shop bought and 'proppa' stuff from the GC. I've planted at various depths, I've started in modules, direct sown but still fail miserably!

Wish I could remember what I did RIGHT that year?

On to my third sowing of beetroot, can't get the darn things to grow at all, and with flowers it's carnations that don't like me so they sulk and die.

I thought I could grow garlic until I moved here - you should see the fresh garlic sold in the markets at this time of year. Things of great wonder and beauty.
