  • Paypal & Skype phishing attempt

Today I had a very convincing looking message titled: "Receipt For Your Payment To Skype Store Inc" and "click here to cancel the payment".

I don't use Skype, but someone who's recently used my laptop does. Still, my hackles were raised, so I looked in my Paypal account: no payment to Skype has been made; then I ran it through Google and sure enough, it's another phishing scam.

    Keep 'em peeled folks

I report lots of things as phishing scams. Loads of banks I've never ever dealt with. Even if it is a company I know and use I don't respond to emails.

I learnt the hard way today to not ignore all the emails though as my card was disconected because I didn't respond to emails and automated messages from my banks fraud team but it had all seemed like phishing to me. It is all fixed now. These phishing scams are all too common. It is on the phone too all the time. A friend of mine laughed though when he answered a dodgy phone call from someone claiming to be from windows saying they needed to access his computer remotely because he had a virus and they would fix it. Fortunately my friend didn't fall for it because what came up on his caller ID on his house phone read 'scam' so someone had clearly pointed it out before they got to him!! Also beward of the aggressive adware/malware floating around online at the moment, I had one a couple of weeks ago and nearly lost everything on one computer.

That's an important thread TS & maybe should be considered for a sticky and can be updated and accessed easily.

Thanks for the warning. I do use Skype, but only the free services. It's because I'm tight LOL

Cheers for heads up TS. I use Skype and have a Paypal account, but never follow links to check my accounts, always log in the normal wayto check my account activity.

Only use the free bits on Skype too.

You can forward any suspicious looking emails apparently from paypal to spoof@paypal.com, they will either confirm or deny they sent it.
