  • Online Harms Bill and Grapevine

The proposed Online Harms Bill, designed stop sites from hosting illegal or harmful material, could have implications for forums such as Grapevine that host user-generated content.

It is important that we all watch this bill's progress to make sure that its it is not implemented in a clumsy way. At worst each post might need to be pre-moderated before it is allowed to be seen publicly.

My understanding is that the aim is to remove illegal content, now whether this is aimed at stuff under copyright I'm unsure, but user generated stuff on here is unlikely to be illegal I would have thought.

Not copyright but terror related, self harm, suicide encouragement or similar material. I agree entirely that such material is not likely to find its way here, and that is my point.

Site proprietors might be forced to take steps, unnecessary and onerous in the case of sites such as this, to *unsure* that such material doesn't appear. We just need to make sure that this site (and similar ones) don't get swept up in a moral panic.
