  • Onion / Garlic / Shallot?

    Hello Folks,

Looking for some sets/bulbs for the above and wondered if I'm to late or should I expect some to appear in Wilko's shortly?
    Cheers

Most places will start to have them now our local gc has them and I bought some at the show I went to at the weekend. I asked at our lottie shop the other day and they dont get them till after christmas.

It sound like I shouldn't panic yet!

I spotted them first a couple of weeks ago. £2 for 50 Japanese onion sets, 50 red sets or 3 bulbs of garlic

I bought mine in Wilkos about 3 weeks ago, just waiting for space to put them in!

Our lottie has only had them in stock for about a week.
I'd imagine Wilkos & the like will have them shortly if not yet.
I plant my over wintering ones in October,so you've got a couple of weeks before you need to panic.
Have you asked your Wilko store if they're getting any in?Maybe it's something your local store don't sell well so have decided not to stock.

I know they had them last year but as you say it's worth me asking next time I'm in.

Is there any advantage in buying garlic from a gardening place, rather than planting some from the supermarket? It always seems to sprout if it doesn't get used soon enough!
Next year's garlic will be going where this year's sugar-pod peas were.....
Onions in the third-hand growbags (tomatoes last year, french beans this year)
Leeks (started indoors) in the runner-bean tub.
Would carrots share best with the garlic or the leeks?
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

I popped back into Wyevale again today, for yet more 50p seeds. While there I was surprised and pleased to buy 50 Onion Electric for £1.99 (Taylors bulbs).

My local Wilko's sell 50 Red Baron and some white onions, but they certainly don't provide the knowledge and excellent customer service that you get from Wyevale.
