  • No way of storing it....

I have got the best crop of apples, pears and plums since I planted the trees several years ago and guess what... my fridge/freezer is busted.
I have made a couple of pies and some apple sauce, but I don't have too many suitable jars to make more. Have been in touch with H......t to fix it. The engineer came out last week and said because it is one of those American food centre contraptions they have to order the parts in as not so many people have them and they don't keep stock of the parts. He is coming back on Thursday. In the meantime I have been ringing H......t about arranging a direct debit thingamajig (can't believe that word is in spell checker!) but they are having trouble setting it up, so I don't even know if the engineer will be back... They better had though as there 'puter difficulties are not my problem really and I will have been without a fridge for almost 2 weeks by then.
You just don't realise how much you rely on these household items until you don't have them any more.
I am having to shop every day for fresh milk, bread and such and meat for dinner each evening.
Oh joy... what a summer it has been. I have had one thing after another to deal with. Just when I am picking myself up from one thing, the next comes and punches me in the gut.

Apples and pears should store for a while in a cool place like a garage or cellar? Just nip into a supermarket and ask if you can have some of the trays that their fruit is delivered in.
Hope you get sorted soonest xxx

Could you dry them in a very low oven to turn them into prunes? (Don't tell me that's bust too!)

Apples should store OK in a cool place. Pears likewise but not for so long. Do you have any friends / neighbours with freezer space till yours is fixed?

if they can't fix it quick you could try getting a temporary fridge/freezer from freecycle then either keep it in a garage for overflow or put it back on freecycle

FreeCycle is a good idea. Someone must have a disused one somewhere!

Freecycle for jars is also good. I put a wanted ad on my local one and was inundated with jars!

Hmm. I did get my wheelbarrow from there, so I will give it a try.
Not sure how I could get a fridge/freezer in the back of my little mo-mo though, but jars I could fit in.

                  Thanks for the suggestions folks.

Well, I finally got the DD sorted and the engineer is coming this afternoon. Hopefully I will have it working again by teatime. Yay! Couldn't get any jars, everyone has the recycle wheeliebins now in my area so those that dont want to keep them just recycle them that way.
For next year, I will start buying loads of jam and marmalade and keeping the jars myself.

Good idea Incy, I go through about 6 or 7 of those each year, and the same amount of salad cream; I will keep those too.
