  • My Last Day at Work Today

Feels a bit odd. Am excited about next week (I start on Wednesday), but also pooing myself, as the new job is on The Dark Side (Industry as opposed to Academia, albeit an 'academical arm' of the company). Didn't sleep at all last night, so just as well I have no real work to do!

About to go for my 'last coffee'. Cue The Last Post kind of music, ha ha!

Try it being your last but one day employed? It's alot darker.

You'll be fine Mrs, I have no doubts.
Step into the dark side perhaps but you'll have the hang of it quicker than Albert Pierrepoint.
          Good luck next week.

I'm sure I will Bob; and I'm sure Sluglobber will excel in their new job.

Thanks guys. Ginger Ninger, I meant that it's an academical arm of the new company, not the one I'm with now. I quite agree re: it being darker if it was the last day employed (unless of course it was a voluntary thing and some rich person had decided to sponsor me for life...)

I won't get one. My previous Institute is holding 'The Party to End all Parties', as the whole thing is closing down (devastating for everyone and big thumbs down to Marie Curie for deciding not to fund research anymore). So, after work, it's straight to that party and then I have to pack for Newcastle, as I'm off to visit a friend first thing, until Monday night. Tuesday is my only 'day of rest' between jobs.

However, I will endeavour to enjoy the partying, lol.

Hi Dont worry I'm sure you will be fine. I changed jobs within my organisation earlier this year for promotion. Was offered option of staying in the department where I had worked for 20 years with staff that I loved and doing a role I had always wanted or moving to a different site 15 miles away to a much bigger department that had lots of problems that needed resolving. I took the challenge and decided to move and despite sleepless nights at the begining (about whether I would live to regret my descision) and a very busy and difficult year I have never once regreted my move. The change and the challenge was what I needed and it has been so satisfying. Start with an open mind and just enjoy the new experience. Let us know how you get on.
