  • My Dad

    Hiya all,
I thought I would share a personal story with you all. (for once )

Last year my Dad got rushed to hospital in April, he was diagnosed with pancreatitis - which for those with no medical knowledge is an extremely serious life threatening condition. In fact we all thought he wasnt going to make it.

My dad is usually tough as old boots and VERY fit and healthy for his 72 years old, still riding his beloved motorbikes and working 5 days a week as a watchmaker, he is also a keen photographer.

It shook me to my foundations to see my Dad as such a vulnerable and feeble old man. It kind of makes you think of your own mortality, and in fact made me re-evaluate my whole way of thinking.

He was finally released from hospital at the end of June, but still not right and didnt seem to be getting better. On further tests it was found out that he had uncurable lymphoma, (He had prostate cancer 15 years ago). They can keep it at bay with chemotherapy and radiotherapy but (rough estimate) has about 5 years at the most. Of course the therapies also take a toll on a person's physicality.

In February he was given the all clear....and has since got back on his bike, started working again and living life to the full again (Which means I dont see him very much.) Next year he has made plans to bike across Australia with some of his club mates and he's started photographing flowers, and attneding camera club too.

I just hope that I have the courage and fortitude to be like him when faced with such adversity. Obviously I am very proud of him

    Just wanted to share.

A touching story Paul. You have a good right to be proud of your Dad!

The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just on the body, but the soul.
