The tradition was for all boys and girls in service to be allowed a day off to visit their mothers on Mothering Sunday, taking a card and a gift of flowers or even a simnel cake. As it is half way through lent, the cake is kept for Easter

            Thanks Jeanie

Happy Mother's Day to all other Mums on the Vine.

And (((hugs))) for those of us whose Mum's aren't with us any more, and miss them unbearably on days like today.

(And mine would have gone barmy about the grammar in that sentence )

Lets hear it for the Stepmums as well, folks - whose contribution often goes unsung.

I'm one of those Sarz, and thanks for the wishes. However, I have four children and eight grandchildren to keep me going. Best wishes for today to all of us who are Mums, and to those who are missing their own Mums.

Well done to my son for remembering to send a card (I think his fiancee digs him in the ribs!) and I'm off to daughter and family for lunch. This means I won't be seeing my own mum but I gave her a card yesterday.

Happy day to mums and steps.

My 2 youngest made cards at school and pre-school and they are on display .

Then the school arranged for every child/group of siblings to put a Mothers Day message in the local paper (the paper were doing them for free), for each mum and then got the kids to pester the dads into buying the paper .

                            What a lovely surprise

How about a little poem for Foster Mums at this point! Thank you for the reminder Weekendwellies.

More Than Just A Foster Mom
                              You gave me a home,
And arms to hold me tight.
                              You keep me safe,
From the things that go bump in the night.

You didn't have to care for me,
But you opened your heart and home.
You have helped me grow stronger,
So one day I can make it on my own.

So thank you for being so special,
And for caring so much for me.
May the good Lord bless and keep you,
                              Now and through eternity.
