    More book help.....

    After pdblake's heroic efforts in sourcing a bizarre and specialist book, I would really appreciate some children's book suggestions.
    No.1 son is an avid reader, he is 10 but reads above his age. Having been here now for 18mths I am completely out of touch with what books are around for him. He has read (and enjoyed) the Chistopher Paolini inheritance cycle, the Young Bond books, some Andy Mcnabb, the Septimus Heap series (and the Hitchiker's Guide).
    Any ideas??

    The Hobbit is a great intro to Tolkien.

    Redwall books are good too.

          If into animals Marley and Me by John Grogan, both DD and I love it

          James Patterson Maximum Ride series is aimed at that agegroup I confess I've read them and the early ones are very good.

            Oh, yes, Animal Ark books

            The Chronicles of Narnia
            The Lemony Snicket(sp?) books

            There's just so many. Have you tried just perusing the kid's section at Amazon or WHSmiths?

                Read Narnia and a few Lemony Snickett (they're too short!)

                Have gone through Amazon, but I just don't recognise any of the new stuff and so don't know what is good
                WHSmith is a bit too far away (600miles or so)

                    the new David Walliams is good - "The boy in the dress" and the Otori books by Liam hearn are great - "grass for his pillow", "brilliance of the moon" etc
                    Imagination is everything, it is a preview of what is to become.

                      ooooh, and the horrible histories, science, geography books are great, my son (nearly 10 reading ability 11 1/2 loves them).

                        TBH I'd have thought a lot of the humour of discworld a bit beyond a ten year old.

                            ahhhhhh but thats the point, he'll read them and find them funny, then in 5 years will read them again and find some of the bits he didn't get last time (even if they don't get it i think they are written in such a way as to be understandable, but in a different way) ...... they are everlasting, cos every age you read them at theres something differnt

                              Just a thought, are there no local maison de presse near you? My local one has a (small I grant you) section of foreign press and books, and there are normally some English ones there, for all age ranges. Only problem for me, its right opposite my fave bar.
