so - a 'missile' goes up just off the coast of California and the States does not know where it came from or what it was.......you have to worry 
So much for early warning systems - and its in their own back yard!!!
IMHO - I think it possibly could be a con trail, but there are some that may think it just a con!
Does seem a little odd though.....States seems very relaxed about it according to media
