loose change !

We have always had a "copper jar", big glass demijohn into which we deposit loose change. It's amazing how much you can save. My daughter has a huge Winnie the Pooh money box and does the same. Every so often when deciding on a family outing, the cry can be heard "What's in Winnie?" and it usually pays for either the outing, or at least part of it. On the other side of the coin I have a son who complains that every time he puts down loose change in the house, it is wiped up by his wife!

We have a huge Smirnoff vodka bottle that was part of a charity bottle break twenty years ago, but it didn't get smashed. We collect all of our change in there, with contributions from all 6 of us, and it soon builds up.

I empty it every December and we buy our Christmas tree with the proceeds and usually much more as well - Christmas crackers, a tin of Roses etc etc

We put 5p coins in too as they are just so small you can't get hold of them in your purse.

We have a coppers tub, which also gets 5p's thrown in it. We generally have to empty it at the end of the month though

There's very little chance of 43 quid accumulating anywhere in our house

I was given one of these, you put the money in a slot in the top of his head. Not only does he tell you what each coin is, he also keeps a running total. He's very polite and I've christened him Gort, after the famous robot in "The Day The Earth Stood Still".

I've got a nice glass bottle that only fits 5's.
Coppers get saved in a tub and taken to the seaside for the slot machines...I'm quite good at giving the right money in shops so don't accumulate too many.

my OH has an electronic tardis that we put all our small coppers in, and then at christmas we take them into the supermarket and exchange them for a voucher to spend...usually its about �30 ish.
So its worth saving and makes a big difference to our christmas fayre!

I've got a small tin that I use and it's currently full. Mainly coppers but a few small silver coins too. I'm taking it to the village show tomorrow to use as a float for the Village In Bloom stall. Effectively it's a donation but it saves that scrabbling for change at the beginning.

we use a french biscuit tin that a student brought over for us a few years ago,the image on the side is of a young black child licking his lips,cant see it ever being on sale here without someone complaining,but 3ins across and about10ins tall,it holds all our small change very well........

I use an old kilner jar, I think it's a 2 pint one for any change apart from 50ps, and another paul masson wine wotsit for 2 pound coins.
It gets added up at christmas usually.

I absolutely LOATHE loose change: Mr TS empties his pockets onto the table every night, and Muggins has to take it all to the shop to spend it. Why not just give the "odd" change when you pay? Like, if the bill is �6.21, give the checkout person �10.21, and so on

When you've seen the incomprehension on some peoples faces when they're trying to work out that means your change will be �4, it isn't worth it....then again, when you see the imcomprehension on some peoples faces when they're trying to work out that means you get �4 change, it is worth it
