  • Links - How to put a link in a word?

    I've read a lot of posts where someone will write something like;

    Please visit this site

And the word 'site' will contain the link to wherever they want you to visit. Please would someone explain how do you do that?

    Thanks!

    Hi Jules

Do you know how to put in a hyperlink?

The way I do it the way you are asking is to type the word 'site' or 'click here' or what ever is appropriate. You then highlight that word(s) and then follow the usual procedure to add the hyperlink. It is then 'under the word' if you see what I mean.

If you are not sure about hyperlinks, just shout.
Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you are probably right.

I've had a look in the Edit Post bit, and there's a button to add a link, but not a hyperlink button - or have I missed something?

Oops Jules, I'm not sure that is how you meant to do it.

Once you have highlighted your selected word, go 'advanced' (button below) and you will be given editing options. The Hyperlink one is the one that looks like a world with a figure of eight on it's side. Click this and a small dialogue box comes up, copy your url (address for the site you want to link to) into it.
Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you are probably right.

Use your mouse to highlight the website address, the right click on it with your mouse, then put the cursor where you want to put the link in your message and right click again and choose Paste!! It looks totally different when the message appears in the thread to the website address you've copied - just to confuse you!

                      No Jules like this

Go advanced (the tab by post quick reply)
Copy the link that you want by highlighting it and pressing control and c
Highlight the words that you want to be green and underlined
then click on the world icon with the eight on its side then (keeping the http:// bit highlighted) press control and v to paste the link in.

                      Good luck

I can manage that type of a link. I just wondered how some members manage the hyperlink when I can't find a button for it.

                        Ok.... like this

Type 'click here' (or whatever) and highlight it (swipe it with your mouse holding down your shift key and it will go purple)

Click on 'advanced' to get your editing options, then click on the 'world' one (it will say 'link' if you hover over it). You then get a dialogue box with http in it.

Go to the page you want to link to, and highlight the full url (address in the white box at the top) and copy (right click and select copy).

Go back to the little box, highlight the http already there and paste the url over it (right click and paste). Now OK it and this should be it. (You will still see the full url typed out though.) Check what your post will look like by clicking 'Preview Post'. Often a good move before posting anyway.

                          Hope this works.
