  • Lidl thermometer

Hi all, I checked my max min lidl thermo earlier, it tells me that it was 33c in my greenhouse today, in my mind that is beyond all realms of fantasy... it was 7c ish outside... could it really have been 33c in my greenhouse!?
Ive no other thermometers to test it against.
Surely it wasnt that warm in there?

...yes..., i'm going outside to check it now, when i got home 4pm it said 7c which i thought was more realistic, do I need to hide it under something in the greenhouse to get a more accurate reading, will the sun heat up the black plastic and send it haywire?

You need to keep it in the shade, or at an angle to the sun. Maybe under a bench?

Its 3.0c inside, 2.0c outside, and definatly too cold to be outside in just pants and a headtorch.
I did squash a slug though that was heading for my onions!
This might explain why my broad beans I have in there are flowering.
I shall hide the thermometer under a shelf, reset and see what tomorrow brings.
It didnt seem that sunny here today, im very suprised at the reading, all the other readings seem feasable although the outdoor max shows 11.9c which I dont think it was.

As others have said, keep it out of direct sunlight Cptn or you will get false readings.

There was frost on the ground here yesterday just before mid-day and the temperature in my greenhouse was 97.2 ºf. or 36 ºC. My hi-lo thermometer is shaded. The heat builds up alarmingly quickly in the spring sunshine. I have bubblewrap lining my greenhouse and I use fleece to shade my plants.

Yes I've had temperatures in the 30s from very little sun and quite cold outside.

The autovent on my g/house opens at about 24C and even in hazy sunshine is often open
