  • And just when things were going so well .......

Last week was helping chum cut their very high hedge - laurel, French favourite, about 4 metres high on the down side of the ditch, working off a secured ladder when the ladder BROKE, not slipped and flipped me off. Landed on the broken bit, flat on the ground, fell about 3 metres.

Badly bruised, a few cuts and a very painful wrist, which took the full weight.

Went to hospital yesterday, had an XRay and voila, broken wrist, torn ligament thingies and now in a cast!

The good thing is the weather is so bad, can't work in the garden anyway! Bad thing is, I may be in this bloody cast for up to a month and didn't realise how important having a thumb and fingers which touched each other can be. Bugger bugger bugger

Sorry to hear that Tony. I know it's not much of a consolation, but it could have been a lot worse. I take it it's your dominant hand?

( bet it's your dominant hand too?)

          Poor Tony!
And I'm afraid the news gets worse - ligaments can take another 6 weeks to be almost back to normal once the cast is off. Don't expect too much from yourself too soon, and make sure you get physio as soon as you can.

Bummocks Tony, that's awful. I hope it's not your dominant hand, but suspect it is, s*d's law and all that. I broke my non-dominant hand, years ago, and it's amazing how much you use it!

I hope you manage to stay positive.

Ooh, but there is a silver lining...

Lots and lots of Vine time!!! I can personally vouch for its restorative effects.

Ouch Tony! That's got to hurt! Isn't it a complete bummer to have that happen at the busiest time of the gardening year too?

Ouch, but at least you are okay in the main. Hope you have a speedy and smooth recovery.

Not good. One of the very few things that separate us from the primates is the opposable thumbs thingy. Speaking from bitter experience, I recommend you get as much physioterrorist time as possible, I am now of primate stock on my left hand because I didnt.

not good news, esp when you were helping someone out too. Hoping it heals well, and surely means a great excuse to get a gardener for a few weeks
