  • its got to be an allergy

Last year i was fine, this year we have a new set of people, on differant plots around me, one plot in particular, has been very well worked upon, havent been able to get close to investigate the smell not that i want to as it reeks

now the last 3 times ive popped down just for say two hours as i cant handle the smell, ive come home and my throat glands has swollen, my nose is now lovingly bunged up good and proper, ive purposely not gone to the patch till the afternoon, but i am greeted with a really awful smell and its not the norm manure smell reminds me more of pigs, than horses or cows
I thought maybe its the trees, but nothing really got into full swing yet. but its really effecting me and i have no clue as to what it is. im taking an antihisem( thingy ) but its not really touching it tbh.

Anyone suffering so far this year, I know its ment to be one of the worst on record due to the late spring,

You should get yourself to the doctors sweetheart. If something is affecting you so badly, allergy testing would be a good idea. Better safe than sorry eh? And perhaps see if other plot holders are affected? Maybe the committee/allotment officer could ask the plot-holder what they're spreading on the plot?

If you can look at the plot see if what he his spreading is grey in colour.

I recognise that description of the smell from a farm some years ago and it effected my mate the same way.

      God the stench was awful.

It looked like a greyish light clay, we noticed the stench from the farmyard when we arrived for a pigeon control day. It was that bad we asked the farmer what it was before we went down the fields.

It was a supposed very good manure from the sewage works, recyled human poo from when they empty the settlement pits.

We were assured it was safe and went about our business but the next day my mate had swollen glades and felt awful.

            Well you did ask.

Near here there are some fields alongside a main road and the stink from them is dreadful - that's sewage too

"You will know if it is being spread on a field near you as it has a horrible, sickly sweet smell unlike any manure you have ever smelt. Stay away from it."
"Sewage sludge has been spread on land for far longer in the USA than here in the UK. By the late 1990s, reports of adverse health effects started showing up in local newspapers across the United States and Canada. Skin lesions often developed in people who contacted the material. Residents near land application sites reported burning eyes, burning lungs, and difficulty breathing when exposed to dusts blowing from treated fields. People who couldn't afford to move away developed chronic infections and permanent scarring of the lungs. Some died."

Its also not supposed to be used on land where fruit and veg are being grown.

Nor least because it is full of toxic salts and heavy metals from medication...humans excrete them into the loo, guess where they end up...that's why human sludge simply cannot be used any more. Not unless you want an awful lot of extra oestrogen-like chemicals going into our food...
