Google pulled plug on Picasa 30 April 2016.

Not sure about Google photo storage but I seem to remember something about their restricting image size.
I use Fickr, which has 1TB free storage and allows any image size. If you don't take a lot of photos the free version of uploader ok but if you take lots pro version does it automatically. They were rather sneaky as the automatic version was free for a while.
It's worth backing up photos in the cloud as it keeps them safe from calamities that could befall your computer and external hard drives. And if you're careful they're free.
