  • If your screen hurts your eyes...

Or if you're prone to insomnia, or headaches after too long at the computer, this might be worth a try:

F.lux: software to make your life better

It's a program that automatically 'dims the lights' of your computer as the sun sets. It mostly gets great reviews, and having installed it myself I have to agree. When it kicked in, I could feel my eyes 'relax' immediately.

It's downfalls are where you need 'true' colours, like photo editing, and also if you like full-on gaming - some of the high end graphics cards get a bit of 'stutter'. But it does have a 'temporary disable' function.

    Highly recommended by me

Before I click on that link - much as I trust you - I'm not going to get some large bellied lady asking me if I want to increase the size of things am I?

Not a hint of trouble on my computer, and nothing found on my shut-down scans last night either

I fell for the one for a cheap ipad and got a piccie of an old codger with a pad on his eye!
Or the cheap 'hands free' phone which was an elastic band to fasten the phone to your head!

I'll give it a go Sarz!

I put this on my Mac last night and the difference was IMMEDIATE.....

If you put it on in the day you probably won't notice it.....

Even in the daylight I cant cope with the glare form my computer screen.
I have the contrast and brightness already turned down - would the above still help me?
and, I work in an area where the office lights have to been on all day (over head spots) - would the above program help still?
            Many thanks sounds interesting

This would be such a good idea if I wasn't both a digital painter and also a gamer I may download and see if I can get to grips with the temporary disable though and see if it works.

Headfry, I think you can change the 'daylight' settings to suit the environment you're in, so might be worth a try

BrO, it said something in the feedback about it being Nvidia/ATI cards that were affected, and that there was a 'brief stutter' when scrolling. The software company said they were looking into it. For me, the benefits outweigh the negatives.

Downloaded it last night and love it. Like the others said, my eyes relaxed the minute it was activated.

Not artistic or much of a gamer so hopefully won't need to use the disable button and hoping it will help stop too many headaches when the studying starts in a week and a half!!!!

In the bottom right-hand corner of your screen, in the same part where it shows the time, there'll be a little picture like the sun with a blue curve on it. If you click the right mouse button on it, it should come up with a list of options?
