  • If you could do one thing ....

Imagine a scenario where you had no limits, (no kids/pets/garden worries, unlimited money/travel facilities etc etc), difficult for most of us I know, but just go with it.

I dont want all the "good" things, ending world famine/war/poverty, finding a cure for aids or the common cold, what I want to know is..

What one thing would you do? Time isnt an issue, nor is feasability.

You could do absolutely anything, what would it be?

    My starter for 10.

I would get into the boat with Sir Ernest Shackleton, Chippy McNish et al, and do one of the most awesome sailing journeys ever made, from Elephant Island to South Georgia. (I would only do this though, knowing that they had survived the trip!!)

I would visit Egypt, sail down the Nile, and visit the pyramids at night on a camel

I'd have been in Albuquerque on April 4th 1975 with a pen and a chequebook in my hand.

There is honestly nothing I could think of that would make me anymore content than I am - I know it sounds wet but I can do all the things I want and wouldn't want to change things.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

i would sit down with Henry V111 and ask him why he did what he did, was he sorry for what he did and how did he think his daughter, queen elizabeth 1st, had done in ruling England!

I'd love to have a computer which I could type in any date- choose a spot on Google Earth and zoom in closer on any event and listen and watch what was going on.
I wouldn't actually want to be there in person for fear of being munched by a hungry T-Rex or catching the plague etc.
Nope- and I wouldn't be able to interact cos I'd find it very difficult not to interfere!!!
( naturally I'd need a Universal translator like they wear in their ears in Star Trek!)

Failing that....I'd love my OH to be around more so we could get this house finished and then have time to enjoy being here- and the ability to drive off from time to time and explore Western Europe in the car....whilst 'Who do you think you are' come in and spend a few months researching my dead ends in my family tree!

              Simples really!

i would remove every horse, pony, and donkey, from every third world country ( or any country where they are not treated humanely) and replace them with a mechanical beast- one that doesnt feel pain. i would also ban all intensive farming of animals.

Ok mines a bit more out there as I've always been based as a day walker (vampire who doesn't implode / explode in sunlight) in my own version of 'what would you do if you could do any thing' senario.

Firstly I would be a day walker

Then, I would walk to the deepest depth of the sea to see whats down there.

and then walk to the deepest parts of the virgin jungle / rain forest to see whats hidden there.

and then walk amongst the Andies Mountains see whats hidden there

then walk in the deepest, darkest caves to see whats hidden there

I would love explore anywhere in the world where no one else has been before and see it first, as mother nature truly intended.

Then I would select my favourite Greek Island (not chosen yet) and live there for ever more, pretending to drink wine under the olive trees whilst artists debated long into the night.

(I would like to stress that no humans where harmed or de-blooded in these fantasies)

I would have a good party, with all my chums there, The Beatles would be the band and everyone would stay in the Chelsea Hotel for the night, and go for grilled cheese sandwiches and coffee in the morning in the deli round the corner.

We probably wouldn't sleep much, would get Lennon to write a new song, Linda Mc would do the cooking, George H would be burning incense, Ryan Adams would be bellboy for the night [and have to come and see me in my room to be told off for spilling the soup], I would have my Holga camera there and would take rolls and rolls of photos, and take the film the next day to be processed in a little dark shop just by Central Park and we'd all laze around for the day before flying home and looking at the photos all the way through the flight.

Then the in flight food would taste nice, we'd have a giggle with Linda about the quality of the veggie food, the in flight films would include all my faves; Delicatessen, Withnail and the music would be the Doors, The Stones, House of Love; and we'd get a taxi home and not have jet lag.

If I was to think absoloute dreamworthy, I would trek the incan trail.

Abit closer to home though, I would love to foster children, build my own house and own my own businesses.

I would ask my Nan questions about her life, how many kids did she have, why didnt she marry ( she would be about 130 ish now ). I would also ask my Mum more questions about her life, we know a lot but there is so much missing. My lovely Dad would have been around to give me away at my wedding, watched his grandchildren grow up. ( he died at 51 in 1961 )
Ask all the questions you think you need the answers to, while your family are still with you, and the ones you may not know you want to ask.

I'd like to have told Kirsty MacColl that it wasn't the best day for a swim.

I'd like to have walked on the moon with Armstrong and Aldrin.

I'd like to have been on Everest in '53 with Hilary and Tensing and hoped they'd both have been old fashioned enough to say 'ladies first'.
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

I'd go back 10 years and give myself a bl**dy good talking to, but I probably wouldn't listen.
