  • I would really really like a

television we could watch in the garden. It always seem a shame on a lovely evening to have to go indoors to watch a favourite programme and with the football and tennis coming up makes the idea even more appealing. Would I need a portable or could I connect it to my existing aerial. It is also the light effecting the picture that has to be solved.
Come on you entrepreneurs lets do it!

It would be difficult to see a tv in the garden unless you put it in some kind of box that will cast a shadow over the screen. A cheap outdoor aerial would do the job rather than going to the expense of connecting it to your existing one unless this switchover thingy effects owt. I'm lucky, I can sit in the garden, look straight in the conservatory & watch the telly on the wall......Good luck with you challange.

I think the issue for most peeps with neighbours is that the TV can be more noisy than you realise.
Often it's bad enough with people's windows open- but outside could actually irritate neighbours.

We used to have a lovely neighbour who used to garden with her radio next to her.
That used to be really frustrating for us at times

Just be aware of that Bren- unless you are lucky enough not to have neighbours nearby!

I know some relatives used a projector and a large white sheet once to play karaoke.

Got a laptop? Get a USB tv stick. They come with a portable aerial but the signals not always great so you might want to run an aerial cable out from the house.

You can get screen covers to reduce the glare but a cardboard box chopped to make a hood would have the same effect.

Headphones would solve the neighbour issue if they are close.

That's put me off the idea already lol

We have already gone digital so really think we would have to connect to the roof aerial.

But joking aside we have a pergola densely covered with grapevine. I am thinking along the lines of a cabinet attached to the brick wall in the corner.

Think I may even make a blog on this.

Don't forget to make the cabinet waterproof Bren.

I would hope not then you would have to waterproof yourself..............I thought the telly was staying out.

I remember years ago when we were stationed in NI the world cup was on. We had all the lads and ladessess round for a big BBQ and managed to get the tele out into the garden, not quite sure how but we did it and a very rowdy part ensued!

I too tried that Lainey. We put the tele in a tent. It was sort of OK but there wasn't mushroom.

I have a real buzz going now - this is the cabinet (one I made earlier)

and this could be the TV....Just need to get a digibox

How about a 3.5 inch pocket sized tv
they are about £80 in maplins, and they come with headphones. This would also save running power round the garden as it is rechargable.

There's just something not right about a telly outside...

It's like having a pond in your lounge.
