  • I wont hear a bad word against Tesco :)

For the last 3 months or so we have been ordering our heavy items (tins, bottles etc) online in a huge monthly shop (OH refuses to EVER go shopping at a weekend again ). I have to say that it's been a brilliant experience, 'having ones shopping delivered to ones door' .

We placed this months order on Thursday, for a Saturday delivery and then on Friday I recieved an email from Tesco because they had noticed we hadn't been shopping with them for a while (that would be our normal month gap) and with the email, as an incentive, was a £7.50 evoucher .

"Couldn't they have sent us that yesterday" was basically what OH said.

Well last night I decided to send a tongue in cheek email of my own which was as follows:

Dear (name of person at Tesco),

Many thanks for your kind email with its' £7.50 evoucher. Unfortunately, this arrived less than 24hrs after we placed our monthly shopping order and will have expired by the time we place our next order.

Could we respectfully (and cheekily) ask that any further evouchers be sent to arrive BEFORE the 23rd of each month as this would enable us to utilise them during our monthly shop.

    Many thanks,

At just gone 5 this afternoon OH took a call from a very nice and apologetic lady at Tesco who has replaced the £7.50 evoucher which had a use by date of 4th July, with an £8 evoucher, valid until 1st October .

I am so impressed. Well done Tesco, excellent Customer Service.

    Reet

Excellent result. I still shop at tesco online whenever I go back to UK. Saves me using up valuable family time at the supermarket.

I had a similar voucher from Sainsburys, but it expired before I got round to using it. After your example, I think I'll email them and see what happens!

Couldn't you have gone back and amended your order, I know with Sainsburys you can amend up to 23.00 the night before.

That was really good of them I hope Sainsburys are going to be good to me after what I've discovered tonight. Our shopping was delivered at 8pm last night, just decided to have a cheeky bakewell slice only to discover the use by date is 24th June!

And I can't shop at Tesco out of principals, so Asda it will have to be from now on

That'll be you and 90% of my town then - we have a war going on up here between Asda and Tesco and the locals are firmly backing Asda.

Well done RnP and well done Tesco for good customer service. I'm also a long-time online user, the system (thus far) is faultless and allows us to reclaim some of our valuable time.

I've always liked Tesco for customer service, their no quibble refund is the best. Not once have I had trouble returning items that I have decided that I didn't really want or need.
And I love getting double the difference back if I get overcharged I once bought Gardening gloves, they were supposed to have been 38p each but I got charged £1.50 each, ended up with them paying me £6.72 to take their gloves away!
I also have a Tesco credit card which I use then pay off as soon as I get home so no interest added and it gives me loads of clubcard points too,I think it 4 for every £1 (I'll have to check)
Have yet to try their online shopping service as I worry that they will give me meat that I don't like the look of,Im quite fussy about my meat! I can spend 10 minutes or so going through every packet till I find the one that looks just right.I don't think they would do that even if I put it as a special instruction.(yes I have almost done it,picked my items, picked a slot and then chickened out at the last minute)
I use Compare Supermarket Prices | Supermarket Shopping - mySupermarket to create a list before I go which lets me work out whats a good deal/cheapest before I go...but if you shop on line you can do it through them and link it to your online tesco delivery and get point on my supermarket but Im not sure what the points are for...might be worth you taking a look

Jeeze! I didn't realise how much I like Tesco!...maybe we should have a thread about virginmedia/mobile because I've been known to talk the hind leg of a donkey off about them! lol

For the uk'ers here - we use mysupermarket.co.uk - have always got our shopping delivered, since uni - saves so much hassle, and I *hate* shopping.

anyway, this site compares ocado, tesco, sainsburys, and asda - when you've items in your basket it can swap + save, and show which supermarket is the cheapest! Really useful.

I used to be an online shopper and the instuctions we had were ' would you buy it ' it is very hard picking for someone else. I always looked for the longest date on fresh food and if I didnt think it was long enough I wouldnt put it in. If the bananna's didnt look ok I didnt put them in, I know its frustrating if you dont get some item's but its because the person picking wouldnt buy it themselves. Not alway's because the item was out of stock. I dont think some of the youngster's do this as they have probably never shopped for themselves.
They start at 6am and at christmas start at 4am. The picks come through during the day, first delivery is done first, then the second etc, so no shopping is held for too long. It is held in freezers, or fridges for the cold and frozen, the rest is held in a loading bay till the van is ready to load up.

Mr D is a delivery driver for Tescos, delivering home shopping! He enjoys the work, but as with all big business Tescos are in it to make money, not for the joy of providing a service!

A while back the pickers for the web orders were all full timers, with a guaranteed 35 hrs a week and a steady income..... then Tescos decided that if they change their contracts to 4 hours they can save paying sick pay, save paying as much holiday pay and can then make up their hours with overtime, when tesco need them to do it, which although good for the business, isnt always good for the worker!
                          Blessings

i like tesco's too. they provide a good service and value for money, and they are also adding more and more to the ethical choices. i normally buy all of my bulk products- flour cereals, loo roll laundry toiletries etc. and frozen veg. ( i know, and on a gardening forum too- shame on me!- but i cant grow everything) then i shop for meat and poultry and day to day items, at the co-op. twice i have bought a cheapish vacuem cleaner from tesco's, both times they have broken just before the garantee ended, and both times the cleaner has been replaced with another machine, with a full warrenty, no quibble.

To be honest all the supermarkets are purely in it for the money (as by definition are all shops) but some of the big boys have taken it to another level and the way in which the likes of Tesco have walked all over smaller local shops makes me very uncomfortable. £7.50 or £8 is nothing to them if it secures your trade and yes, it's good that they responded quickly but so they should. I don't believe that they are value for money and think a lot of the quality is poor. In the days before I realised what a bunch of unspeakables they are I used to occaisionally do an online order but stopped when they substituted a tin of biscuits for a chicken. Maybe a one off but clearly not suitable although it did make me and the driver laugh

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
