  • I blame you lot :)

I've been and gone and done it, as the saying goes.

I've put my name on the list for an allotment.

Reading this forum has fired up the old enthusiasm again, so onto the Council, who sent a list of secretaries, who put me on to the lovely George, who has had his allotment for 47 years I won't live to see another 47 years!

I can't wait for a chance to meet him, he sounded a lovely character

Anyway, all I can do now is wait. Needless to say there is a watiing list so I could still be dreaming this time next year

But as I said - I blame you lot - so a big THANK YOU

There should be a public health warning on this forum. It forces people to do things against their natural lazy instincts. Getting loads of exercise both of the physical and grey cell kind should be banned.

Lol... AND you're at risk of thinking ' I have a 10 rod plot. There's an empty 15 rod next to me... Can I manage???' HELP!

LJ, I'm sure there will be people I don't get on with but I totally agree, everyone I've met on mine so far are soooo lovely

Hi Chris B!! Fantastic news, I only hope you get your plot soon and enjoy it as much as we are! Been down there this afternoon (got out of work early as I started at 730am - having to pick up some stock from another branch) for a couple of hours and literally just walked through the door! Tis great!

              Thanks for the encouragement.

My dad has had a plot since forever, and I had one many years ago but life got in the way of things, so I know what I'm in for.

Just have to wait patiently and see what comes up.

Do you think I would be pushing my luck if I took an amble down to the allotments to introduce myself to George?

Go for it! Thats how we got our plot, went down, asked a few questions, emailed the council liason and when we couldnt get her on the phone tried to catch her 2 days running at the allotment! We saw her the second day, and got the plot on the spot!

Hi Chris and welcome to the Vine! As I've discovered GYO is addictive!

Everyone here is very friendly and helpful - feel free to ask any questions you want as you go along! Do keep everyone updated on your progress!

I'm still in the "should I, shouldnt I?" brigade - I've turned over my back garden to veg growing, but unfortunately my working hours have just increased, so have less time than I wanted to spend on my proposed lottie! Still mulling it over! (just so you know Nick!).

Have got the phone number of the chap i/c the lotties my father in law used to have - which is a convenient site - lets see how the new working hours work out, so to speak! dexterdog

I'm trying not to get too excited in case I have a long wait.

Have ordered the compulsory bed time reading though - seed catalogues - so will sit and plan

If I didn't have chickens I'd turn some of my garden over to veg, but as I like to see them roamng around there is no point in planting anything precious. Had to wire off the tomatoes from them, only to find I'd got a chicken inside the wire, it had hidden under the plants.

                    Feathered pigs!!!

Hi Chris and welcome to the vine. Once you get back into it you won't regret it but it is highly addictive as DDL says. I'm still working on getting more hours down there and a couple of freecyclers have just turned up with a load of soft fruit bushes/cuttings in reply to my plea last week. They are also allotment holders and such generosity is testament to lottie holders everywhere.

Also this forum is great, friendly, helpful, funny and in its own way addictive. Although I have noticed that most of the very regulars are well north of Winchester. Hmmm!
                      Bright Blessings

                          Good on yer Chris,

You won't regret it ...... well maybe when it's freezing cold, rain like stair rods & you've jsut had 30 tons of cow muck delivered & you've got to move it cos it's blocking the road way you will, but most time you wont
