  • How many cookery books

Having a clean up (a rare event) it struck me to count how many cookbooks I actually have.
The answer is 51!. They range from the ordinary,Jamie,Gordon, etc to the downright bizarre,Lorenzo Amoruso!!! This doesnt include magazines, free booklets and hand written recipes in my own book.
It just struck me how many does a person need, and how many do you actually use?

Have not actually counted, but have about 20ish I think.

I do use my Rachel Allen 'Bake' and Nigella Express...have good results with their recipes.

I don't use recipe books for everyday cooking, but if I feel I'm in a cooking rut, or want to make something special I'll go through all my books till I find some inspiration.

Also have a hard back notebook that I copy or stick all recipes I have culled from friends, internet, mags etc...its falling to bits and I need a new one to copy them all into again!!

we got rid of a load when we moved but still have 59. Plus 2 folders full of recipes from magazines.
I like to cook but do use my fave ones all the time.

Dunno how many, a couple of shelves of a dresser though plus a large amount saved on the computer. Don't use them on a day to day basis and to be honest some of them aren't really used at all but I do like having a look through if I have a special meal planned or a glut of something I'm getting bored with. My favourite is still probably the Abel and Cole one though, brilliant recipes and a really nice read and my old (very old) copy of Delia is handy when I can't remember what ratios I need for something basic.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Oooh, I probably have between 30-40 books, plus over 200 recipes from magazines/web prints etc

Actually, I use them an awful lot! I make monthly meal plans, so am always on the lookout for new stuff!

I probably use a recipe straight from a book or mag/web 4 nights out of 7! I could never remember how much of each spice to put in a curry, so I just make the recipe straight from the book!

Obviously they don't all get used as such but most of them have been flicked through for inspiration regularly...I'm not really very good at following recipes so it's more a case of looking at the pictures and getting a rough idea of what goes into it.

A quick count says 372. There are probably more if I look under the bed or behind the sofa though! I have a regular stable of favourites but I mainly just like looking through them at random for inspiration

Whilst I do pale compared to Seahorse's monsterous collection, I probably have a good 40 or so, ranging from Lord Huge to Delia to some beautiful French ones that I just like looking at the piccys.
I only really use Lady Delia and Lord Huge, although will leaf through the others from time to time should the 2 staples let me down.

I daren't count mine Probably nowhere near as many as Seahorse, but there's; all the everyday ones, then all the baking ones, then all the preserving ones, then the vintage ones, then the cake decorating ones, then the wine and home-brewing ones, then the odd speciality ones like Chinese/Italian/Indian/Canning etc.

I don't use the everyday ones that often, mainly because I make up as I go along for thing like casseroles and soups, and meat-timings, pastry recipes and the like are all in my head by now. The others all get a regular airing though.

I'm not sure I believe Seahorse has that many cookbooks - I demand a recount, or a picture!

Have stopped buying cookbooks mainly and rely more on printing specific recipes off the Net and keeping them in a ring-binder, gets used lots. Oh but on counting there are 41 books almost entirely vegetarian, except for the 'sweet' ones.

Oh, you just know a recount would be even higher

                            I think I have about 10, maybe 9.
I'm beginning to feel seriously inadequate....

I'm quite pleased Seahorse has that many...surely means I don't need to feel guilty next time I want to add to my collection
