  • How do you organise yours, or do you just bung them in?

Think the title of this thread says it all.

What am I talking about? Wardrobes of course!

I need to have a serious sort out, having just found out that in a week or so, I'll be wearing my new work uniform - very pleased actually, it looks really smart, but I now have loads of tops that I'll never wear again.

So, how do you organise your wardrobe? Tops, trousers, skirts, or all items of the same colour together?

What do you think works best?

Post any suggestions and ideas to the above thread - any advice gratefully recieved.

    Thanks

    Bernie

I have dresses, then trousers then cardies, then tops. Then I have shoes underneath on a rail that fits behind. Then I have bags on a box under the bed.
I have shorts and vest tops folded in OH's wardobe shelf.

I have a hanging rail with his t-shirts and my winter long sleeves on. I rotate them acc to season. And I have hardly ANY clothes on account of losing 3 stones and giving away about 8 binbags lol.

I am ruthless and am always chucking things away (charity).
I am looking forward to getting my extension sorted so I can put all my clothes in the same place in one wardrobe and get rid of the horrible hanging rail.

Well, Ive done it! I really thought it would take hours, but bearing in mind Allotment Ladys advice the other day when I was going out ("that one, that one and that one" sorted!) I've sorted it out!
I must confess to the following: 6 long black skirts, one leather; 5 pairs of work trousers, 3 pairs of posh trews (going out ones), 2 cardis and 3 polo neck jumpers - ALL in black!
I havent mentioned the numerous other tops Ive got.
Lots to put on ebay/charity shop methinks!

I have the opposite prob of not having any clothes for when I do supply, as they were all my 'fat' things that got chucked out. I only wear mummy clothes now and it's hard to find smart suff in my wardrobe. I even had to borrow a suit for a funeral

Well done for sorting it - bet you have a nice clear calm mind now (for a little while )

Only for a short while, I'll have to see how it goes! Am I right in thinking that you have lost weight, ie. getting rid of larger sized clothes? If so, well done.

My problem is, Ive put that much weight on I couldnt fit in my bike leathers for the TTs, and by the end of last weekend, Id eaten that much, my normal leather trews were tight! I really must try and cut down, but then, I DO love my food!

                Isn't the rule;
If you haven't worn it in the last three years, chuck it?

That's what I was told - I don't take any notice of that though, I'm not a fashion follower, and only buy clothes that are made to last. I confess, I do buy second-hand from eBay sometimes, but that's mainly because I LOVE a bargain, and I HATE shopping LOL!

Well done for the sort-out. I try to be tidy and systematic, but mainly our stuff is shoved in wherever there's a space

Hey thats great news congratulations! A new job I'm guessing

I'd organise it by type rather than colour. If you want to wear a skirt you can go straight to the skirt section rather than search through whole lot cos you can't remember what colour you decided the item was last time you hung it up (is it blue or green for Teal for instance).

However in reality mines a bit mixed with stuff I really like at the front, changing to not worn very often, on to special occasion to blurgh, what was I thinking.

However, I do confess to having all the hooks pointing in the same direction - makes life much easier honest!

My clothes wardrobe rail is about 2 foot long. Everything is squashed on. There is a taller wardrobe which has coats and long frocks (and all my old riding jackets which I really should find the heart to part with) and Madmax's suit.

I have a couple skirts, couple suede trousers, silk sweaters, couple of shirts and a hanging shoe thingy then a bunch of posh covers containing my silk outfits (which are worn very rarely but will still be wearable in 20 years if I don't gain weight)

I am a Virgo. you might have worked this out for yourself by the end of my post.

                      - i only buy clothes in autumn colours, so everything matches + it al suits me
                      - i arrange into bottoms, then tops, then knitwear, then dresses
                      - i teach swimming, so i have a swim bag stocked with swimsuit, knicks, towel, shampoo, brush
                      - i cycle, so i have a bag of cycling togs + shoes
                      - for rambling, another bag, packed with all the gear
                      - for work in school, a separate wardrobe of trousers, smart shoes + blouses, all Oxfam so I don't care if they get glue on them
                      - oh, and a lotty bag with dungarees from Gap, boots + old fleece jkt
                      - shoes: in a box under bed, mostly sensible + comfy. Strict one in, one out policy on shoe purchases

                      go on, laugh at me

Thanks girls. Ive actually ended up putting them back in type order, trews, skirts, tops etc and also in colour order - mmm, with most stuff being black its has been very easy!
Not a new job lizzy - just a new uniform! Good luck with your job searching.

You've all got so many clothes! I don't even have a wardrobe I have a small chest of drawers where I keep things I don't wear often (i.e. posh stuff) but the rest of my attire is in a wearing it/washing it/in the laundry basket rotation
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom

I've come to take you home."

Well they say a change is as good as a rest so maybe it will feel like a new one in your new uniform....(dont want to appear job obsessed either).

Surprising how quick these things are once you get going. Most of my 'real' stuff is in my chest of draws. I'm a T-shirt & Jeans kinda gal so not point hanging it up. And it only ranges from browns through to black so I don't need worry about colour either. LOL

I have far too many clothes, but work on the theory that I might need it or want to wear it again some day; I only keep things I like, and unfortunately for my hubby (as he loses wardrobe space) I like most of it!
My wardrobe(s!) are arranged like this: chunky cardies, into jackets, into blouses/shirts, into trousers. In my OTHER wardrobe: dresses and skirts. And in the over-flow wardrobe (I know, I know) my posh frocks.
