Hmm, sweet and savoury things are quite the things at the moment. Salted caramel and that sort of thing. Nigella does a chocolate rocky road type thing that has salted peanuts in it. Not too difficult and likely to be popular. I'm sure it'll come up if you Google it!

Just googled it. You need to go to Food network.com/Nigella Lawson/sweet and salty crunch bars.

Di i would love to this, but i just cant - there is no way that my brain and my stress levels could survive a thing - its got to be an organised activity - its just the way i am, it drives me mad it does, but we run a tight ship around these parts hahaha

Sorry, our posts overlapped. Yup, I suppose peanuts may be a bit of a problem. Mind you, they probably won't be too keen on things with lots of salt in!!!
Cornwall is lovely whatever time of year you come. Bring your wellies and sou' wester!!!!!

Gosh...trying to think of the wacky things I've baked. Mayonnaise cake? Coca Cola or 7up Cake? Somewhere or other there's a chocolate cake made with mashed potato....I think it was Delia for Waitrose.

I saw sweet potato cake on the diabetic website, or there's my courgette cake recipe on here somewhere. What about these cookies made with ready salted crisps? You could leave out the pecans and they wouldn't break the bank either.

Saw these on another website whilst looking for an idea to shorten my eglu run (found a great idea and will be putting it into practice by the way). Whilst not exactly heston in the strange taste combination stakes, they look interesting. Here goes me trying to post a link - they are called Cake Pops (as in Lolipops I guess).

                    Good luck

Cake Pops are the latest phenomenon in baking.
                    Ingredients:
                    1 baked cake
1 250g tub of low fat cream cheese
                    1 pack chocolate cake covering
                    Lolly sticks
                    1 polystyrene block
                    Sprinkles etc to decorate

                    Method:
First bake your cake – you can use a mix but why would you? A simple sponge cake can be made by weight and thats how I always make them because having chickens means my eggs are not standard sizes. For one batch of cake pops I use a 2 egg cake. Weigh the eggs then add the same weight of butter, caster sugar and self raising flour, for a chocolate cake I substitute about 1/5 of the flour for cocoa powder and add half a teaspoon of baking powder. Sift the flour and throw in all the ingredients before mixing well.

Once the cake has cooled break it up and add in the whole pack of cream cheese

Mix it up well until it is sticking together. You can use a food processor or mixer for this

Make walnut sized balls out of the mix and put on greaseproof paper.

Pop the balls in the freezer until you are ready to coat them (they can be frozen for a couple of weeks – open freeze them before popping them in a bag together – separate them before thawing). Take them out of the freezer an hour before coating and once thawed keep in the fridge.

Melt your chocolate cake coating using a double boiler or by standing on the back of the Aga in a mug.

Dip a lolly stick into the chocolate before inserting into the cake ball (about halfway)

Dip the cake ball into the chocolate coating then decorate and stand in the polystyrene to set.

Store in greaseproof paper in a cool place.

Website was Eglu 2 rent and hen holidays (felt I should give them credit)

Just what I was going to suggest...

This is a fruity beetroot cake from Nigel Slater (who has a sweet tooth, so you know you are on a winner!) Nigel Slater - Tender Recipes - Beetroot poppy seed cake
