  • have you ever lost a pet?

I mean "put it somewhere, then couldn't find it again"

    1) my new drawers. Perfect for ...
    2) putting new guinea pigs in

turn round to fill jars with pickled courgettes.

    3) Look in drawer: no guineas

Mild panic, because they are so tiny they can squeeze under the heavy sofa. I imagine chewed cables, fried pets, poops everywhere, pigs nesting in the sofa stuffing...
Tear the ground floor apart looking for them: under fridge/freezer/sofa, behind telly & stereo, in washing basket.

Phone Mother for advice, then I pull the drawer completely out several times, then put my hand in the TOP of the cavity and ...

    4) perfect hiding place

Haven't so much lost a cat in my draws, but I have opened draws and found a cat in there...t-shirts, tops, curled up cat. Where else would you keep one when not in use?

Vague memories of losing a hamster when I was a kid. Seem to remember me and my sisters got said beast out of its cage and it ran about all over the place and then we couldnt find it.
I think it was found in the end, but it was a long time ago.

Yes, when our Puss was a wee kitten he was not that keen on the kids and used to hide. One day I was frantic cos I could not find him for hours. Pickle had one of those booster chairs you put on a normal chair to so she could sit at table...Puss was happily asleep in the cavity between chair and booster. He's still not all that keen on kids.

Lost one of our snakes the other night, my own fault, had left viv open. Turned pickle's room upside down at midnight, (she was in my bed) up and down street with torch looking under cars etc in me jammies.
Himself comes home in the morning, moves something in a toybox (that I had already looked in) while we were putting room back to rights and there was snakey.

aged cat crept behind the hamster cages one Christmas morning and pushed one off the shelf. I found her with a hamster in her mouth, scared her into dropping it and the hamster rushed back into the dining room and into the conservatory..
under the frezeer and it took us several days and a humane mouse trap to catch it again

I lost a hamster when aged 14, it was missing for 2 weeks before casually walking out from the cupboard under the stairs into the middle of the living room whilst we were watching TV.
It just sat there looking at me, like "Hello, haven't seen you for a while!".

My oldest brother kept mice, and they regularly got knocked over.
When he was moving house, he had 14 in the cage.
They got knocked over whilst moving a sofa.
                      We collected 18...

On a side note, my nan had a hamster that lived till 8 years old.
She put a drop of whiskey in his water every morning lol.

Hamsters are the very devil to catch. Years ago, we lived in a timber framed house in Aberdeenshire. DD was a little girl then and had a hamster called Phyllis. Phyllis lived in that Habitrail stuff and had tubes that went all around DD's room. Freckles, one of our cats, broke open a tube and the hamster escaped (both from the tube & the cat)

No idea how, but she got into the wall and was under the window in my bedroom, still in the wall, but three rooms away from DD's and on the opposite side of the house. I had to cut a 2" square out of the gyproc and lure her out with treats.

Not a pet as such but three lifetimes ago, I was a shepherd and the hill farm I worked on was bordered on both sides by sporting estates. Bess was my first ever working collie and my favourite. Anyway we were working at the top fanks way up the hill one morning when the air was filled with the sound of shotguns - I had forgotten it was the Glorious 12th - turns out Bess was gun-shy and she took off and wasn't seen for three days - was worried sick about her being shot for worrying sheep on any neighbouring farms and spent hours wandering the hills looking for her - then she just appeared at my cottage door one breakfast time - was I a happy bunny or what

When I was about 14 or 15 I took my dog Arnie up the shop to buy my mam a paper, read the paper while waking home and as I got to the gate I went to call him and there was no sign of him,ran back the way I had come (which was all uphill !) to find him asleep outside the shop where I had told him to stay, had been to busy reading the paper I had forgotten to tell him to come.He wasn't fazed at all but I dont think I have ever felt such panic.
